Energy loss in Pennsylvania lasted 16 months, says Phmsa

A pipeline operated by Energy Transfer LP, which has operated jet fuel for at least 16 months, contaminates the water recesses in Pennsylvania, and according to a preliminary examination by the supervisory authorities, the management can be endangered.

The inhabitants of Upper Makefield Township, Pennsylvania – about 30 miles northeast of Philadelphia – were submitted to the company in September 2023, but the company did not find a leak at the time, shared the administration of pipeline and dangerous materials in a report on Thursday. The leak came from a sleeve installed in the mid -nineties, and 44 similar sleeves on the pipeline could be exposed to the risk, and Phmsa.

The report takes place for almost two weeks after the company repaired a damaged segment of the Twin Oaks pipeline and started testing with the testing of living water fountains, some of which are contaminated with hydrocarbons. PhMSA continues to enable the pipeline tin with a reduced pressure of 20%, while it carries out renovation work, including submitting a plan within 90 days to replace sleeves whose integrity cannot be safe.

The “obvious inability to effectively recognize the leak may have exacerbated the effects of the release over a longer period of time,” wrote Bryan Lethcoe, director of the Southwest region of the PHMSA office for pipeline security. “Correction measures are required to reduce the risk of the pipeline integrity of the pipeline system to protect public security, property and the environment.”

The energy transmission states that the order is checked and plans to react within 30 days.

“We are still completely determined to work with PHMSA and other applicable regulatory authorities, the municipality of Upper Makefield and affected landowners in order to solve this situation safely and quickly,” said the company in an e -mail declaration.
