Everything You Need to Know

GTA 6’s 2025 fall release plans appear to be on track if the rumors are to be believed, but nothing has been confirmed by Rockstar Games.

If there’s one mystery that’s been eating away at us in recent months, it’s the GTA 6 release date. Rockstar Games has been building up the anticipation around the game with no concrete updates on when it can be expected to arrive. While the company has stated that Grand Theft Auto 6 will be “coming 2025 to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S,” fans have remained worried that the publisher will not be able to meet its deadline.

Now Digit.in has given us a rumored GTA 6 release date of September 17, 2025, and we’re putting all our energy into hoping they are right. Rockstar’s GTA 6 plans have been an ongoing topic of discussion in our circles and across online forums, easily making it one of the most anticipated releases we’ve seen in years. The pressure is on to deliver something memorable, but until we get there, here is all the information we have on GTA 6’s expected release.

The Rumored GTA 6 Release Date Gives Us Hope, We Are Still on Track for a 2025 Launch

If the rumors are right, a September 17 GTA 6 release date gives us enough time to prepare ourselves for the game’s debut and get some hours in with the older titles to build up the excitement on what’s to come. The 12-year wait for a new game in the franchise has not felt as long considering the success and continued relevance of GTA 5.

GTA 5 sold over 200 million units worldwide by November 2024, amassing over $8.5 billion in revenue for the company. That’s what you’d call a successful release, and if GTA 6 is even marginally better than its predecessor, we expect that it will surpass these numbers easily.

The level of enthusiasm surrounding the game does put it at risk of disappointing fans who may have set the bar far too high, but from the quality of the content we’ve seen in the latest GTA 6 leaks, we think the game will live up to expectations.

The GTA 6 Release Timeline So Far

The title was confirmed by Rockstar Games all the way back in February 2022, when the company slyly snuck in an update while talking about other GTA 5 updates. Back then, we had even fewer details to go on, but the fact that the work on the games was “well underway” left fans excited about what was to come. This was also confirmed in a tweet by the company.

Cut to November 2023, when Sam Houser, the president of Rockstar Games, announced that the company was set to release its first trailer for the game in December. Unfortunately for the team, the trailer was leaked online and the company had to officially release the trailer a day earlier than planned, on December 4, 2023. Thankfully for the team, the trailer was everything gamers had hoped for.

Within 13 hours, the GTA 6 trailer broke the record for the most views on YouTube within 24 hours, hitting the 61 million number with ease. It then reached 93 million views at the 24-hour mark. By the end of 2024, it crossed 230 million views. Nothing could better explain how much fans were looking forward to the game.

The frame-by-frame analysis of the trailer began and it would continue to feed fans for the next year, as Rockstar Games then went silent on any of their plans for the game. The trailer had mentioned a fall 2025 release, and we now appear to be on track with this plan.

In February 2025, we’re still waiting for the second trailer to make an appearance. There is some speculation on the possibility of the GTA 6 trailer 2 release by the end of March, keeping Take-Two’s Borderlands 4 marketing in mind.

GTA 6 Expected Release for PC

The rumored September 17, 2025, GTA 6 release date we mentioned earlier is likely to apply only to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S gamers. PC players are expected to have to wait till early 2026 for a release. Rockstar Games tends to move to a multi-platform approach more slowly instead of a simultaneous release, and the same is expected with GTA 6.

Talk of Rockstar’s GTA 6 plans are only rumors as of now, but the omission of a PC release in the first trailer does suggest that we are right about the split schedule.

GTA 6 Pricing Plans—How Much Will GTA 6 Cost?

Until Rockstar Games announces its GTA 6 plans, we will not be able to confirm the price of the game, however, we expect it to range between $70 to $80 USD for the base game. Rumors also suggest that we’ll have a special edition priced between $80 to $120 USD, as well as a collectors edition for the more committed fans, at around $200 USD.

Rumors also suggest that the base game could start at $100 USD, which would set it out of budget for many gamers who are awaiting its release.

These numbers are only speculative and the publishers could target a higher price range to capitalize on the interest in the game. GTA V launched in three similar formats at $60 USD, $80 USD, and $150 USD for the base game, special edition, and collectors edition respectively back in 2013. Times have changed and gamers are considerably more expensive now, so expect the GTA 6 pricing numbers to go up even further than the predicted estimates.

Predicted GTA 6 System Requirements

Now obviously gamers will need to ensure they have a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S in order to play the game when it is released, but we’re relatively certain PC gamers will get a shot at the game. The title is expected to be extremely large and demanding, so while we don’t have any insider information about the specs yet, we can guess the minimum system requirements.

  • CPU: Intel Core i7 8700K, AMD Ryzen 7 3700x, AMD Ryzen 5 5600X
  • GPU: AMD Radeon RX5700XT, Nvidia Geforce GTX 1080Ti, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660
  • OS: Windows 10, DirectX 12
  • RAM: 8GB RAM
  • Storage: 150GB SSD

Charting the Latest GTA 6 Leaks—What We Know About the Game

The rumored GTA 6 release date is only one part of the puzzle—the contents of the game are far more important. Rockstar Games has been so quiet about its progress on the game or the content that we can expect from it, so gamers have had to get extremely creative with their fan theories.

Redditors have put their sleuthing caps on like never before, with entire posts dedicated to analyzing the minute details of the trailer. One Redditor even went so far as to count the number of vehicles in the trailer, putting their estimate at 416. It’s commitments like this that keep the conversation going.

I just counted all the cars in the GTA VI trailer.

GTA 6 Locations and Maps—Here We Come Vice City

GTA 6 is set in Vice City, in the fictional state of Leonida, echoing the charms and qualms of Miami and Florida. The map is expected to be the biggest one in the franchise yet, twice the size of the one in GTA 5. You can expect to see some iconic Miami-esque landmarks, along with a range of landscapes ranging from sandy blue beaches to the swampy Everglades.

The game will undoubtedly focus on the neon skyscraper cities and the noisy suburban homes, but these atmospheric areas that range in between them will offer up a versatile experience in-game. The GTA 6 rumors suggest that the game will have three major cities and four sub-cities for exploring. From visiting nightclubs and hotels to wrangling alligators and boars, there should be a lot to do in GTA 6.

With no real update on what the map will look like, fans have come up with their own renderings of the estimated appearance, chock full of both leaks and the insights gained from fan theories.

If the map really resembles this at all, I’d definitely be very, very happy.

GTA 6 Brings Its First Female Protagonist

The latest GTA 6 leaks have all focused on hypothesizing the backstory of our first female protagonist, Lucia. She is expected to arrive alongside a male lead who hasn’t been named, indulging in a life of crime and romance across Vice City.

While there have been some cries of another game going “woke” and an equally fair share of gamers hypersexualizing the character already, most appear excited to explore her role in the game and how it plays out.

GTA 6 Is Expected to Run at 30FPS on Console

One of the more disappointing GTA 6 leaks we’ve seen is that the game will likely aim at a locked 30fps on consoles. It may perform better on the PS5 Pro, but for 60fps gaming, players will have to wait to see if the PC specs are better when we get closer to a concrete GTA 6 release date and timeline.

These rumors come from a former Rockstar Games animator Mike York, so they are not set in stone as of now. However, it is safer to set expectations low so you can be surprised if the studio manages to offer you a better deal.

GTA 6 Features That Have Everyone Talking

Some rumors are more valuable than others, but they are all equally entertaining to see when you know you’re not set to receive any official news for a while longer. One silly rumor suggests that GTA will give DJ Khaled his own radio station in the game where only his music will play. Whether you’re a fan of his content or not, you have to appreciate this blend of pop culture and humor, and how well this collaboration would fit the brand of the Vice City game.

When the next Grand Theft Auto game is released, a major part of the experience in the game will revolve around operating different vehicles as you leave a trail of chaos wherever you go. GTA 6, like its predecessors, is expected to have an extensive catalog of vehicles you can travel around in. This will include planes, boats, cars, motorcycles, and other special vehicles. Want to crash a Tulip M-100 or a chunky helicopter? You probably can soon.

A report from Digiday has also suggested that Rockstar has contacted high-profile Roblox and Fortnite creators over a possible collaboration on letting players create custom experiences in the game. This level of independent control has never been featured in a GTA game before and if true, could bring in a whole new category of curious gamers to their next release. This is only an early rumor for now, but we’re interested in seeing if GTA 6 could really pull off something like this.

GTA 6 Development Costs and Sales Expectations

The game’s release is going to be a big moment for gamers, but it will arguably be a bigger deal for the publishers and the development team. GTA 6 has been projected to make over $3 billion in its first year of sale, based on numbers from DFC Intelligence. The report estimates that the game will cross $1 billion USD in pre-orders and in the first 12 months of sales, it could reach $3.2 billion.

The report in the Financial Times also suggested that the development costs for the game are to broach hundreds of millions to around $2 billion, so the sales numbers have to live up to expectations to make this endeavor worthwhile.

If GTA 6 is as big of a success as it is projected to be, the gaming industry could see renewed interest in its offerings for a period, even if it would mean having to compete with the game for the months that come after we pass the GTA 6 release date.

Other developers and studios are said to be holding off on announcing a release date for their own games to ensure they don’t coincide with GTA 6’s release. The sooner Rockstar Games gives us an update on GTA 6’s expected release date, the better it will be for everyone.

Community Reactions to GTA 6—Everyone Is Watching for the Game’s Release

For the most part, fans of the franchise are doing their best to remain calm about the game’s upcoming release and what it will have to offer to them. The latest GTA 6 leaks and rumors all add to the anticipation of exploring the streets of Vice City, but some fans are also trying to keep their expectations moderate. At the end of the day, the game may be amazing, but it could still fail to surpass some of the benchmarks and expectations that have been set so far.

This is likely why Rockstar Games has been so quiet about it, riding the wave out in silence to ensure they don’t reveal something that kills the excitement by mistake. Another game may be able to get away with being imperfect on day one, but the scale of the attention of GTA 6 will have the criticisms pouring in at an unprecedented rate.

Still, despite the pressure on the company, the climate that GTA 6 has created surrounding its release has largely been positive. Even those who no longer game or aren’t as invested in playing GTA 6 have kept their eyes on the progress of the title and how it could reshape the type of games we see in the coming years.

The rumored September 17 GTA 6 release date has renewed the conversation around the game to its peak, and we’re going to keep watching for what information Rockstar Games chooses to reveal next. What about you, are you excited about Rockstar Games’ GTA 6 plans?
