Extended delay in the repair of water leaks due to a wrong address – Tshwane

A water leak in the early street in the north of Pretoria was repaired in 2024 after months of delays.

Despite numerous follow-ups to the reported water leak since October 18 last year, the edition has remained unsolved until February of this year.

Tshwane said the wrong address led to long waiting for repairs.

The council member of Ward 2, Quentin Meyer, said that it was unacceptable for the residents to report a problem and take the U -Bahn for as long before taking care of the repair on February 27.

“It's just unacceptable. We reported this problem repeatedly, and despite our efforts, the metro took too long to answer.

“The residents had to endure this for five months. This delay should not happen if we talk about water waste and critical infrastructure, ”said Meyer.

He said that although he understands the challenges of the old infrastructure, he concerns the delay in coping with such leaks.

He emphasized the need for better coordination between the subway and its departments in order to prevent similar problems preventing again.

“It is the community that suffers from repairs for so long. The city will have to cope with these challenges more effectively in the future.

“We are grateful that the leak has finally been determined, but the lack of urgency of the U -Bahn is disappointing. It felt like we were ignoring, ”said Henry Boysens, resident.

The metro spokeswoman Lindela Mashigo led the delay to the wrong address that was given during the first report.

Mashigo said that the reference number provided by the residents was connected to another address in two streets outside of the early street.

“During the inspection, no leak was found in the place provided, which delayed the repair at the right address,” said Mashigo.

Despite the frustration of the residents, the U -Bahn assured the residents that they deal after the occurrence of water leaks.

Mashigo admitted that Pretoria North was exposed to infrastructure problems due to his aging pipelines, but emphasized that all efforts were made to approach them immediately.
