Fairview Mayor, who is willing to travel to Utah to join the temple dispute of the past few days

Tyler, Texas (KLTV) – The risk of a lawsuit that approaches every day in the city of Fairview.

The Mayor of Fairview is considering taking a trip over 1000 miles to try to stop the lawsuit.

“For our residents I have to see someone who is a decision -maker in the HLT church. No lawyer. Someone who can tell me why she is doing what he is doing. We try to do that, ”said Henry Lesner, the mayor of Fairview.

This 60-day communication of the intention of entering a lawsuit by the Church of Jesus Christ of the Saints of the last few days was sent to FairView in January.

Last month the church said:

“We need a temple with four instruction rooms, not two what we have conveyed. It is not enough for our growth. It is not enough for the size of our membership. You want it to be the size of a chapel. We don't need a chapel, we need a temple. “

The deadline of March 24 quickly approaches between both sides without a conversation.

Mayor Lesner hopes to bring the talks back on the right path before legal disputes.

“I feel pressure, so I try to talk to everyone I can. Hopefully someone in Salt Lake City will get the message of what we try. “Said less.

Both sides had plans for a smaller temple than the originally proposed; That came after the mediation in November. After the citizens had pushed back to the size of the temple, the church pulled the plans away. Now some FairView residents say that they are still not satisfied with the plans and have more discussion before a lawsuit.

“We just have to go through the process and receive LDS use for a new temple design.” said Marji Smith

“Until you do this or submit a lawsuit, not much can be done, except that the mayor offers to speak to someone,” said Ben Brown.

Both Smith and Brown have been a Fairview inhabitants for over 15 years. Both stated that they appreciate the willingness to negotiate the size of the temple, but are still dissatisfied with the 120 -foot church tower height.

For the mayor Lessner, his main problem with the original size of the building, which would have been as large as the town hall in Fairview. Lesner says he understands the concern of the residents, but is ready to approve the 120 -foot church tower if the plans are to be presented.

He says his main goal is to avoid the lawsuit.

“They count on me, but they also know what I told you, I also told them. We are ready to compromise and accept the negotiated building, although they don't like it and they want to continue to have conversations with the church, ”said Lessner.
