Favorite on the opening day of region 2 girls basketball – Grand Forks Herald

Grand Forks – The favorites advanced on the opening day of the tournaments of the North Dakota 2a and 2b region on the open day.

Region 2a is held in Mayville, while 2B is located in Devils Lake.

In Mayville, Thompson defeated the Hillsboro-Central Valley 65-37, while Grafton defeated four Wind-Minewaukan 62-46.

Grafton was led by Kate Leclerc, who had 24 points, four templates and three rebounds.

The spoiler exceeded four Winden-Minnewaukan 42-18, led by eight rebounds by Molly Bjorneby, Savannah Blackcloud and Paity Ziegelmann.

Freshman Suri Gourd scored 32 points to run four Winden-Minnewaukan.

Thompson led 7-0 to start the game and 39-22 at halftime to withdraw.

Addison Sage had 19 points and four rebounds, while Kya Hurst added 13 points and nine rebounds and Jordyn Tozer eight points.

Sophomore Paityn Olson led the Hillsboro-Central Valley with 13 points and four rebounds, while Junior had nine points.

The semi -finals on Tuesday in Mayville begins at 5:30 p.m. with Seed Devils Lake No. 1 against Grafton, followed by Carrington No. 2 against Thompson.

The Tommies are the lower seed, but are classified in the state survey before the cardinals. Thompson is number 5 in the survey, while Carrington is the only team that receives outside the top 5 votes.

Four games were played in Devils Lake on Monday, with Benson County St. Johnn defeating 34 points with 66: 38 behind Aubrey.

St. John was led by Kenny Davis with 10 points.

Hatton-Northwood played the closest game of the day and beat the Park River-Fordville-Lankin with 58-53.

The thunder was led by Verlichison Azure (19 points) and Isabel Padilla (17 points).

Lily Skilbicki had 17 points to record the aggies.

Langdon-Munich defeated Griggs-Midkota with 59-33 behind 23 points from Avery Lorenz.

Mai-Port-CG defeated North Prairie 52-38. Hudson Zerface scored 18 points to follow the patriots who played in Jordyn Carpenter without one of the top players in the region.

The semi-finals on Tuesday in Devils Lake begins with Benson County against Hatton-Northwood at 5:30 p.m., followed by Langdon-Munich against May port CG.
