FFF refuses a match break for Ramadan in the middle of controversy

The French Football Association (FFF) has refuted the claim that the Ligue 1 game between Angers and Monaco, which took place on Saturday, March 15, 2025, was interrupted so that the players could break their Ramadan quickly. The controversy has drawn the IRE, in particular from legal and right -wing extremist political personalities, who perceive this incident as a violation of secular principles.

This game was discontinued by referee Willy Delajod in the 13th minute after the injury to the Annia player Himad Abdelli. The decision to pause the game was strictly connected to the player's injury, but some players used the break to drink and eat briefly. This break did not plan, but triggered a debate about the interface between sport and Islamic practices in France.
