More than 40 people, many of them international students, were sold in a massive fire in Paterson on Sunday, which destroyed at least two buildings, the authorities said.

The fire started around 5:30 p.m. in a distance of apartment buildings in the 400 block of the Totowa Avenue, according to Paterson Fire Officer.

No injuries were reported.

Firefighters from the city and the neighboring cities brought the fire under control after a few hours, although dozens of people were homelessly left, officials said.

“Among these affected people are international students who are nowhere to go and are currently living in a hotel,” said Paterson Councilman-Large MD Forid Uddin in an explanation.

“While we continue to support you, you urgently need winter clothing, blankets and other basics,” said Uddin.

Uddin said everyone who wants to help with donations from new winter clothing, blankets or money can call 973-582-8195.

The American Red Cross of New Jersey said that they helped find 42 people from eleven families to find temporary accommodation, food, clothing and other necessities.

The Red Cross said late Sunday that they expect to help seven other people from two families affected by the fire.
