Fire in Abingdon Home displaces the family, causes damages of $ 50,000

A fire that broke out in a two-story house on Hebron Terrace in Abingdon has displaced a family and caused an estimated $ 50,000 damages, said Maryland State Fire Marshal.

Firefighters said that the incident occurred on March 1 at 11:13 p.m. and was discovered by a resident who noticed a stumbling block and reset it. Shortly afterwards she smoke smoke and found a fire in the back of the couch in the basement bedroom.

According to the office of the state firefighter, the fire was decided as accidental due to an electrical failure and was quickly included by the Abingdon Fire Company.

Thirty -five firefighters reacted to the scene and controlled the fire within 10 minutes.

The fire was limited to the basement, but medium-heavy to detailed smoke and soot damage on the upper floors prevented the family from returning home.

A 59-year-old resident was brought to JHH BayView for smoke inhalation and is expected to make complete recovery. All other occupants, including two small children, were able to escape intact.

The state firefighter's office reported that the house had a functioning smoke detector, but was not a fire alarm or a sprinkler system.

Harford County's disaster relief is currently supporting the displaced family.
