Firefighters fight massive wind -driven flames in the port of Shreveport/Bossier | News

Shreveport, La. -More than 50 units fought for a massive 3 -Am alarm fire fire in the port of Shreveport/Bossier on Saturday evening.

The fire chief of Shreveport, Clarence Reese, said in a late -evening briefing that 2.5 acres of compacted bales of paper burned. That corresponds to about 9,500 tons of paper on fire. Strong winds made fire fighting even more difficult.

At this point there is no word about a cause of the fire or whether there is any injuries. At 10 p.m., almost 40 units were on site that broke out shortly before 4:30 p.m. that more than 100 firefighters from several agencies were on site.

The fire brigade from Shreveport has requested mutual help from Caddo Fire District 4, Caddo Parish Fire District 5, Caddo Fire District 6 and the fire department of Bossier City. Firefighters say that they could let the fire burn out themselves, but they will probably be on site for 48 hours.
