Can fish really be drunk?

Studies at New York University (NYU) with zebrafisch – a species that is usually used in laboratory studies – showed that exposure to alcohol (ETOH) influences its behavior. The study showed that moderately robust fish swam faster in groups and often led sober fish. At higher alcohol concentrations, however, the fish showed calming effects according to the Fisheries blog that remained afterwards.

Damage alcohol fish?

Alcohol can be harmful to fishing. Exposure to high concentrations can lead to disorientation, impairment of swimming and potential toxicity. According to studies published in the Journal of Experimental Biology, FISH processes process alcohol differently than humans, but longer exposure can affect the nervous system and its organ function.
