Fiu and get top grades for the fight against anti -Semitism – NBC 6 Südflorida

Since October 7th, 2023, Hamas massacre, American college campus saw an explosion of anti-Israel and sometimes anti-Semitic demonstrations. Jewish students felt under siege at many universities, but according to the anti-defamation League, not here in South Florida.

The ADL has published its second national anti -Semitism report, and the University of Miami and Florida International University received an “A”.

“We are enthusiastic about an A-grade and it is well shown, Fiu was fantastic. That does not mean that we had no incidents, but every time the administration occurred, they did the right thing, they were helpful for students, our Jewish students feel safe,” said Jon Warech, Executor of the Hillel Chapter in Fiu.

The Fiu students Tom Mizrachi and Natan Farhy, each of whom is Jewish, told me that they feel comfortable and welcome on the campus.

“Absolutely, we have several Jewish organizations here and it gives us a feeling of community,” said Mizrachi.

The ADL reporting card rated 135 universities and universities. 45% of the schools improved their class compared to the last reporting card because, as the ADL said, it made important political changes for the fight against anti -Semitism on campus.

“It does not mean that individuals and students have to restrict their freedom of speech, but it means that the harassment of a student group or a population should be thoroughly convicted,” said Lonny Wilk from ADL.

While Fiu and the highest grades received, Florida State, the University of Florida, Central Florida and Florida Atlantic, deserved a “B.”. The University of South Florida received a “C.” They were the only ratio of Florida Colleges.

The ADL says that an improvement can and should happen.

“Campus can set up a structure and frame to protect all students, including Jewish students, as we have seen that anti -Semitic incidents have increased significantly throughout the country, and so we have to be able to fulfill this moment,” said Wilk.

According to the ADL, all students should be able to concentrate on academics without worrying about their personal security.
