Five runs second, strong start of Boynton Lift Beacons via Memphis

The baseball team at Valparaiso University joined the victory in Memphis on Sunday as a redshirt junior Spencer Boynton (Tampa, Fla. / Seffner Christian) delivered five solid innings, including perfect in the first four frames. The beacons achieved five runs in the second and this sum for a 5: 3 victory in the series finale in Tennessee.

How it happened

  • After Boynton had withdrawn the side into the order in the lower edge of the first retirement, the beacons began with a five-run top of the second.
  • The tip of the second inner was modestly started with two outs and no one on the base and the first five biacons of the game were retired, but redshirt newcomers Aidan Thaxton (Chicago, Ill. / St. Ignatius College preparation) Kade Reinertson (Huxley, Iowa / Ballard Community) added a single of the run scoring single through the right side to make it 2-0.
  • After a walk for the second free pass of the Innings Redshirt newcomer Sullivan case (Carmel, Ind. / Carmel) continued his strong start into the season with the big inning strike, a double double down in the right field line. A second goal of the inning and an infield single followed, then in the second year Kevin Denty (Tinley Park, Ill. / Marian Catholic) went with the bases that were loaded in the fifth run of the inn and followed the Memphis starters from the game after 1 2/3 pictures.
  • Boynton drove through the first four innings and sent the first 12 men with whom he was exposed to keeping Valpos 5-0 lead. The right-hander was touched in the fifth, the only run that he allowed in his five-in-end start while only allowed two goals, no walks and five.
  • Senior reliever Harry Deliyannis (Bloomington, Ind. / Bloomington North) was charged with two runs with three goals and two walks in 2 1/3 innings, causing the damage to restrict Valpo at the time of his departure.
  • Red shirt in the second year Adam Guazzo (Huntley, Ill. / Huntley) joined the game for his season debut with a runner and one in eighth place. He nailed the parade and withdrew all five batteries with which he was exposed, including a strike to seal the victory.

In the game

  • Boynton achieved his first victory with a bying trip and revolved around a performance in which he only lasted 1 1/3 innings and had approved eight deserving runs in Samford last weekend. The right thing missed the last season due to a Tommy John operation.
  • Guazzo, who mainly worked as a starter last season, set his first Collegiate Save.
  • Valpo had a 9-5 edge in the hits.
  • Valpo start jugs combined for 19 strikes and only gave a walk this weekend.
  • Redshirt junior Spencer Warfield (Fullerton, California / Servite) enjoyed a multi-hit game and reached three times with a single, double and walk.
  • Sullivan played a solid shortstop and went with two doubles 3-on-5. He has three multi-hit games in the first six games of the season and had three additional blows in the series of this weekend in Memphis.
