Flag football leagues come to Minnesota, with the Vikings invest in high school girl, colleges

Minnesotas the most gross and organized thrust for girls flag football comes in spring.

A new regional college League begins in April, followed by an extended Minnesota High School League, which runs at the end of April to June.

The local flag football pipeline is supported by the Vikings and grows the reach of the four-team high school tournament, which they organized last June.

“It is really important that that [opportunities] are grown in parallel to use the existing interest [and] Girls have to give the opportunity to see something to see this next level, ”said Joe Rush, Viking's youth and high school football manager.

According to the National Federation of State High School Associations at the age of 6 to 17 years, half a million girls aged 6 to 17 played flag football, but in Minnesota the sport mainly took over at recreation levels with a few school opportunities at high schools or universities.
