FleckLED offers 150+ hand-printed letter press fonts for the digital download colossal

When AI infiltrated every part of the creative process, those who are committed to human expression have found innovative ways to endlessly appealing craft and art. Creative director Jason Pattinson is such a person. He is behind Fleckled, a new online shop of hand-printed book print writings that have been digitized and are available as high-resolution downloads.

Fleckled currently contains more than 150 fonts that were printed on a Colombian press from the 1860s and are more on the way. All are available either in large, small letters or digits with additional ornaments and borders via countless styles. Maintaining the characteristic grain and warmth of the wood and is also available in two versions: one with a thicker, saturated ink and one with a lighter, desperate feeling.

“The small defects in the hand -carved wooden blocks give a letter pressure and permanent attraction,” says Pattinson. “Visible defects, wooden graves, planning patterns and wear effects were compensated for by various stages on bonds and pressure in order to achieve the optimal dense and needy versions.”

Pattinson and his team have been working on the digitization of letterpress for more than two decades. He worked with printers and dealers in Italy, Sweden, Germany, Argentina, the USA and Great Britain, where he is based.

“We are in discussions with some retired printers who have some really remarkable private collections and research the possibilities for digitization and sublizz, and research various assets to expand our online resource,” Pattinson told Design Week.

With the growth of the stain, the medium is widespread and offers an alternative to the generation of AI for those who are interested in book printing aesthetics without access to a press.

Pattisone started the shop because he “provides these timeless assets of a new generation of creative people”. He shares himself with Kolossssal: “It fulfills me with great confidence that the design community in a world that is overwhelmed by AI is determined in authenticity!”
