Florida Gulf Coast wins the Asun conference tournament of women for the ninth season in a row

Fort Myers, Fla. – Emani Jefferson scored 15 points to lead the Golf coast Florida for the ninth season to the championship of the Atlantic Sun Conference tournament and defeat 68: 51 on Saturday.

The Eagles continued their dominance of the Asun tournament. They are 38-2 of all time in the tournament since they were eliminated in 2012. You are 26-0 in your nine -year series and won 12 of the last 14 titles.

Against Central Arkansas, Jefferson made 6 out of 8 shots and collected seven rebounds, four assists and five steals with just one turnover. Dolly Cairns and Khamari Mitchell-Steen added 10 points for the Eagles of the upper seeds (30-3).

Leah Mafua had 17 points, Jade Upshaw 15 and Cheyanne Kemp 10 for Central Arkansas No. 2 (23-9).

The FGCU did not allow a field gate in the last 3 1/2 minutes of the first quarter, and the 8-2 run of the Eagles led to a lead of 16: 12 in the second quarter. Cairns opened the second with a 3 pointer and Mitchell-Steen with a layup for a lead of 21-12 over four minutes in the districts of the quarter.

The Eagles scored 22 points in the second quarter. They led 38-21 with one minute in time and held Central Arkansas without a field gate from 4:44 to 0:08 when the Bree of Stephens scored the sugar bear in the color to achieve 38-24 at halftime. The next field gate of the sugar bear came to the third quarter for four minutes.

The leadership of FGCU reached 21 after a 7-0 run to open the third quarter. In the middle of the fourth Jefferson, Jefferson met a 3 pointer and a long jumper to restore the 21-point lead with 68-47, with 3:16 remaining. Upshaw scored the last four points of the game for Central Arkansas.
