The current law requires that the middle schools at the beginning of the academic year 2026-27 do not have to start earlier than 8 a.m., and the high schools able to start older than 8:30 a.m. to help older students get more sleep, but quickly caused a setback.

However, new laws submitted this year (Legislative Board of the Senate 296) would “extinguish the duty of the school authorities of the district school, to adopt guidelines for the start times of the middle school and the high school”.

On Monday, the draft law was approved by the committee for the formation of the Senate with 6: 1 before K-12. Among those who voted for the establishment of the state of Senator Lori Berman, D-Boca Raton. The only different vote was Sen. Don Gaetz, R-Crestview.

If Governor Ron Desantis's draft law is legally passed, this would come into force on July 1st.

An accompanying amount (House Bill 261) was submitted in the Florida House by the state MP Anne Gerwig, R-Wellington. This invoice is to be heard by a subcommittee for education on Thursday.

The legislative meeting of the state begins on Tuesday, with legislators tackle more than 1,800 bills.
