Football Tracker: Manchester United facing Leicester after Newcastle win League Cup final

We have a massive weekend of football ahead of us with cup finals and title rivals facing off across Europe. This is your one-stop shop for all the big results from around the continent and further afield!

Sunday, March 16th

20:15 CET –  Well, there’s been plenty of drama and a bit of glory already today but, shockingly, there is still tons to come. We have three massive late games ahead of us with top-of-the-table clashes in France, Spain and Italy rounding out the weekend.

From 20:45 CET, PSG host Marseille in Ligue 1 while at the same time, it’s Atalanta vs Inter in a Serie A blockbuster. Kicking off at 21:00 CET, Atletico Madrid take on Barcelona for the right to go top of LaLiga. Quite a program!

19:56 CET – Over to Serie A, Fiorentina have thrashed Juventus 3-0 to pile even more pressure on Thiago Motta whose job is on the line now surely?

19:55 CET – Newcastle United’s players lifted the Carabao Cup just minutes ago to end the wait and finally put the past in the past. Onwards and upwards from here.

19:42 CET – Next up is a game far less important as Manchester United travel to Leicester City in a game between 15th and 19th. Odd times.

Check out the match preview here.

19:40 CET – A quick word on Eddie Howe who has done a remarkable job at Tyneside. After remarkably reaching the Champions League two seasons ago, he has now won his first trophy as a coach and for a club who richly deserve it.

19:37 CET – Eddie Howe’s heroes are about to walk up the storied Wembley steps just like they did 70 years ago in the FA Cup final to end a long wait.

A new generation of supporters will witness this one but the history of this great club still runs through the veins of everyone associated.

19:30 CET – After eight long minutes of added time Newcastle United have done it! THEY ARE THE 2025 CARABAO CUP WINNERS TO END 70-YEARS OF HURT.

Incredible and emotional scenes on the pitch and in the stands as Alan Shearer celebrates like a boy again. Disaster day for Liverpool who never really turned up on the big stage. A really quiet day for talisman Mo Salah.

19:26 CET – They couldn’t, could they? After a VAR check, Federico Chiesa has had a goal given and it is a big one! With eight minutes added on, there is still time for Liverpool to spoil the party…

19:06 CET – Quickly over to Ligue 1 and 10-man Brest have been held by Reims whilst Strasbourg defeat Toulouse 2-1.

Whilst in Montpellier, play has been abandoned due to spectators riots in the ground as the home side find themselves 2-0 down to 10-man St Etienne.

19:00 CET – No sign of a Liverpool comeback here and in fact Newcastle United look the more likely to add a third! Arne Slot’s side are all over the place.

Mo Salah? Three touches so far…

18:43 CET – It is 2-0 now! Are Newcastle about to cause a massive upset and with it create history for their great club?

Alexander Isak has just delivered on the big stage with a lethal finish inside the box from a Jacob Murphy header and that is why he is in such high demand.

This is turning into a special day for the Toon Army.

18:41 CET – For a brief second Newcastle thought they had doubled their lead from another corner but VAR ruled it out for offside!

18:37 CET – Play is back underway at Wembley! Big 45 minutes incoming…

18:21 CET – That was the last meaningful moment of the first-half and it is dreamland so far for Newcastle United. They are 45 minutes away from ending a trophy drought which has seen the club go through some tough times and almost 70 years of pain.

A big half coming up for Liverpool to avoid putting the cherry on top of a nightmare week.

18:17 CET – What a header! It had been coming, but Newcastle United are ahead thanks to a Dan Burn bullet header on the stroke of half-time. It is bedlam in the Newcastle end and their dream is just 45 minutes away from becoming reality.

I said Newcastle and Burn had been a threat from corners and that is exactly how we got the opener!

18:10 CET – Athletic Club have found a way past Sevilla to win 1-0 and maintain their hunt for a brilliant top four finish in LaLiga.

18:07 CET – Newcastle are back on top and having some luck from corners with Dan Burn causing Liverpool some trouble.

18:06 CET – Opta insight: Liverpool have failed to attempt a shot in the opening 30 minutes of a game for just the second time under Arne Slot, with the other instance coming away to PSG in the UEFA Champions League this month.

17:51 CET – Roma have responded well to being knocked out of the Europa League by edging to a 1-0 win over Cagliari in Serie A.

17:47 CET – Liverpool have begun to take control of possession but without really threatening so far. Not a thrilling final so far.

17:35 CET – Bright start here from underdogs Newcastle United who have dominated the early exchanges!

17:30 CET – Kick-off at Wembley! Will there be an upset this afternoon or will Liverpool get the job done?

17:25 CET – The teams are walking out at Wembley! It is almost go time…

Time now for the national anthem.

17:20 CET – Over in Ligue 1, Lyon have thrashed Le Havre 4-2 to continue their strong form.

17:00 CET – Before our full attention moves to Wembley, we have a shock result from Serie A to bring you! Bologna have thrashed Lazio 5-0 to climb up to fourth in Serie A and continue another brilliant season domestically.

Arsenal 1-0 Chelsea

Fulham 0-0 Tottenham

14:51 CET – Makeshift striker Mikel Merino has headed Arsenal in front against Chelsea from a corner! That’s the Spanish midfielder’s fourth goal since being moved up top, an inspired switch it seems.

11:05 CET – Happy Sunday! And what a Sunday it’s set to be with some mouthwatering league action all over Europe along with the smaller matter of the Carabao Cup final between Liverpool and Newcastle.

First up though is a game that’s crucial for both ends of the table in Serie A, with second-placed Napoli away to second-bottom side Venezia at 12:30 CET.

Saturday, March 15th

23:02 CET – Lastly today, wrapping up the Ligue 1 action, Lens have edged Rennes 1-0.

22:57 CET – Moving over to LaLiga where Girona and Valencia have played out a 1-1 draw to end proceedings in Spain for today. It could be another priceless point for Los Che, who are only one point off the bottom three.

22:48 CET – In the last Serie A match of the day, Torino have beaten Empoli 1-0 with the latter mired in the relegation zone and still three points from safety. Torino, meanwhile, are very much comfortable in mid-table.

22:42 CET – Runaway Belgian league leaders Genk have wrapped up their regular part of the Jupiler Pro League with a comfortable 2-1 win over third-placed Royale Union SG.

Genk currently hold a commanding 12-point lead over Club Brugge and look good for the title. Bear in mind though, their points are halved in the next phase before the top six face off against each other twice again. Makes it interesting!

Anderlecht, Antwerp and Gent are all assured of joining the above three in the championship round.

21:05 CET – On to the late games then and it’s not exactly a vintage program this evening but still a couple matches to enjoy.

Over in LaLiga, Valencia are away to Girona looking to continue their drive towards safety, while in Serie A, Torino are hosting Empoli. In Ligue 1, Lens are taking on Rennes.

20:52 CET – The on fire Mika Biereth scored his 11th goal in nine Ligue 1 games to help Monaco to a routine win away to Angers.

18:25 CET – As day turns to night across Europe, we have some more huge games getting underway.

17:55 CET – The 16:00 kick-offs in the Premier League have all ended and the big headline is that Manchester City have been held 2-2 at home to Brighton, who were good value for their point and arguably deserving of even more.

In another blow to City, Nottingham Forest moved further ahead of them with a 4-2 win away to Ipswich. That results along with a win for Wolves and a point for Everton leave the relegation battle looking all but done.
