Former Marbletown, NY, fire chief arrested because he took $ 100,000 from the department

Newark, NY – a former fire chief was arrested on Friday and accused of stealing over $ 100,000 from his volunteer fire brigade.

Williams Storrs is accused of stealing his position as treasurer and fire brigade manager in the Marbletown fire brigade over four years for over four years, as can be seen from a press release from the New York State Compotroller Thomas Dinapoli.

The Marbletown fire brigade in Wayne County was founded in 1971 and, according to the department of the department, has three engines.

In 2024, a fire brigade member tried to make a purchase with the department's debit card, but it was rejected due to a lack of means, said Dinapoli in the publication.

The department then reported a potential theft to the state police.

Soldiers found that Storrs stole 101,000 US dollars between January 2020 and July 2024, said Dinapoli.

He used firefighting cards to make personal purchases and made direct payments from the department's accounts, said Dinapoli.

Storrs allegedly used the money to pay his wife's credit card and buy articles from various retailers.

Storrs is charged with a second degree due to great theft.

In 2024, Storrs was exposed to the head of the department as boss.
