Former Michigan officer who was sentenced to prison for sex abuse

White Cloud – Ryan Dornbos, the former Big Rapids police officer, who did not advocate a competition to sexually abuse a minor, learned his fate on March 18, 10 years to 40 years, with the time that had already served.

Dornbos stepped into the packed courtroom from Newaygo County Circuit and wore a prison -overall. He was in silent, mostly expressionless and spoke only once to answer a question from the judge.

The former officer supposedly attacked a child with whom he was related several times at the age of 10 in several years, according to court documents.

He was arrested on March 22, 2024 and submitted to the Newwaygo County prison after an investigation by the Fremont Police Department, which was initiated in January of this year.

The young victim gave one of two statements who dealt with Dornbos in the courtroom. Through tears, she told him that he and her family caused a lot of stress.

Dornbos' ex-wife Jessica was next to the girl and held her before she turned to speak to the man.

“She trusted him.

She noticed the emotional and mental tribute that the girl's abuse had, and commented on how this could continue to affect her.

“Your fight is my fight,” said Jessica Dornbos.

Several supporters of the girl and her family carried shirts with this phrase together with a blue -green band, which meant support for surviving sexual assault.

At the time of his arrest, Dornbos still worked for the Big Rapids Department of Public Safety, but was released after the department had carried out its own internal examinations.

Dornbos, who had previously been employed in the Sheriff of the Newwaygo County, was originally brought up in two cases of criminal sexual behavior of the first degree of a person under the age of 13, with the accused being over 17 years old.

In April 2024, he was not guilty of the numerous sexual behavioral counts that can send him to prison for life.

Dornbos was later charged with severe stalking

The procedure for the sexual crime of the former officer was planned for January 27, but on February 11th Dornbos took a confession of competition for a new number of criminal sexual behavior for the first time, which means that he assumed the conviction as if a guilty plea had not been approved, but had not allowed any guilt. “No content competition basically means that they are guilty, but they just don't want to admit it,” said the victim in their explanation. “You are disgusting. I trusted you and loved you. I lost this trust, but I hope I can't let you ruin my life.”

Dornbos could have been sentenced to life in prison, but Michigan's law says that the term could be any number of years at least 25 years.

According to an agreement agreement, the minimum minimum contract was reduced to 10 years. The judge said that even taking into account the victim's statement and the statement by Jessica Dornbos, it would be unfair.

The former officer was sentenced to ten years to the agreed years, but the judge determined the maximum after 40 years. Dornbos gets recognition for 248 days in prison.

Both the young victim and Jessica Dornbos believed that he had earned more than 10 years.

“My last plea is that God is gracious to her soul,” said Jessica Dornbos. “Although I pray, the consequences do not give in.”

The lawyer of Dornbos, Donald H. Smith, said that there are very serious disagreements about what happened in the case. He added that to support the lower minimum, he heard that a murderer had come 23 years, and he believed that her crime was worse than what Dornbos did not address.

He also questioned with some of what was said in letters against Dornbos, and said they should not be taken into account.

“This is not a stoning and everyone who has a problem with my customer cannot pick up a stone and throw something on him,” said Smith.

After 10 years, Dornbos can apply for probation and there would be a hearing, but it is up to the probation authority whether he can leave the prison.

Regardless of the detention, DornBos must also pay court fees and register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
