Fort Cavazo's Habitat for Humanity concludes some operations after fire damage

Kilteen, Texas (KWTX) – the habitat for humanity in Fort Cavazos, an important resource in Killen for the purchase and donations of used furniture, has set an indefinite period after a devastating fire, which swept through the surrounding area on Sunday.

The organization building in the Atkinson Avenue has long been a reputation for central texans who are striving for affordable household goods and supply.

The most recent fire, which significantly influenced the Liberty Apartments on the entire street, let the habitat building damaged and was unable to continue its operation.

Many, as in Marcia Custodio in Killen, rely on the shop for both donations and purchases.

“When I arrived here and it was closed, I was a broken heart,” said Custodio, reflecting the shock that many residents feel.

Kristin Smith, President of Fort Cavazos Habitat for Humanity, explained that the resort business creates essential funds for the affordable residential projects of humanity in central texas.

“If our resale business is not in operation and is in operation, we cannot serve our community,” said Smith.

Despite the challenges, Smith remains hopeful.

“Our building is still with some damage, but it's still here. This is nothing but God, ”she said, thanking that the damage was not worse.

In response to the closure, Amy's attic came to help by providing warehouse containers to help Habitat for Humanity to continue his donation collection in the counties Bell, Coryell and Lampasas.

However, the organization can only resume sales if the firefighter removes the building and carries out the necessary repairs.

At the moment, the residents of Killen have to wait for the repairs to be completed before the Habitat Fort Cavazos can reopen for humanity and continue its mission to serve the local community.
