Frank Lloyd Wright's most famous creation is a facelift

Lecks in Frank Lloyd Wright's most famous at home, the Wall Street Journal reported, reported and repairs cost 40 times the cost of building.

The serious case of falling water has been with a thick scaffolding barrier in recent months. The efforts of his steward, Western Pennsylvania Conservancy, to repair dozens of LECKS on the mill run. Pennsylvania's property adds up to 7 million US dollars -far from the 148,000 US dollars required for construction in the 1930s.

The museum converted at home is a pioneering example of Wright's organic architecture, but its ambitious design and its position over a waterfall have left it in a somewhat precarious state when it approaches the 100-year brand.

Now monument preservants are working hard for the coming generations to support the property.

The last time the conservation was restored in the early 2000s, said Justin Gunther, director of Fallingwater, the post. This current project is part of the next 20-year maintenance plan for Fallwater, who received a name “UNESCO World Heritage” in 2019.

It is one of just two Pennsylvania website on the list – the other is the independence hall in Philadelphia.

The conservancy is now on the middle of its three-year project, which includes the pumping of liquid mortars in the leaky walls of the house, the attic group groups are replaced on the flat roofs of the house, which deal with the deteriorated reinforcement concrete and the window and the door to be preserved, the latter requires a special care, given the air humidity Air humidity.

“Water is always the natural main force that you want to fight with a house,” said Gunther.

The project should end by the end of the winter of 2026. All of this time and work is of course high costs.

“As with every construction project, they always cost more than they expect,” said Gunther.

The original estimates for the project in 2019 have more than doubled.

A state grant from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania covers a large part of the big dollar restoration, and the remaining funds are collected by private foundations and individuals, said Gunther.

Another 1 million US dollar must complete the fundraising.

According to Journal, the website received 143,000 visitors in 2024.

“Frank Lloyd Wright said that Fallingwater was designed with the music of the stream,” said Gunther. “He said that this kind of sculptural expression of the current itself, of lavish water. It is this sculptural expression of the forms and principles of nature. Because of this direct inspiration from nature, no matter who they are when you see Fallingwater, you will find a connection. “

However, the recent attention that Fallwater has received is due to the scaffolding that has included the 9,300 square meter house since December. Gunther said the scaffolding should drop for the regular tour season at the beginning of April. This means that early bird visitors have a special opportunity.

In “Preservation-in-Action” tours for the start of the Fallingwater tour season next month, visitors will go into the complexity of the preserving projects with a deep immersion, said Gunther.
