What happened to Gene Hackman and Betsy Arakawa?

What we know:

The 95 -year -old Hackman and the 65 -year -old Arakawa were found dead in separate rooms in their Santa Fe estate on February 26. One of her three dogs was also found dead.

At a press conference on Friday, the sheriff of Santa Fe County, Adan Mendoza, said the first examination of the medical examiner showed that Hackman and Arakawa were both tested negatively for carbon monoxide. The colorless and odorless gas, which is made from kitchen appliances and other fuel burns, can be fatal in poorly ventilated houses. No gas leaks were discovered in or around the house.

Mendoza said that Hackman's pacemaker recently showed activities on February 17, which means that the former actor may have appeared in his house nine days before maintenance and security personnel.

The couple's bodies decompose with mummification in Arakawa's hands and feet, as can be seen from an affidavit of the search command. Hackman's body showed similar signs. Hackman's body was found in the entrance to the house and Arakawa was found in a bathroom.

In the first autopsier results “there was no external trauma for one of the two individuals,” said Mendoza. Detective wrote in a search order that the investigators believed that the deaths were “suspicious enough to request a thorough search and examination”.

The authorities who searched the house were dealt with with high blood pressure and chest pain, thyroid medication, Tylenol and records from medical diagnostics tests, as court files were submitted on Friday.

What we don't know:

It is still unclear how Hackman and Arakawa died in their house in Santa Fe, although the authorities said they don't suspect a bad game.

Whether the pills or other medications were a factor will only become known when the toxicological tests have been completed in the coming weeks. Mendoza declined to say to whom the medication bottles were prescribed, citing data protection concerns.
