Gas leak with 30 feet high waste that blows into the air closes the US 27 in both directions

A gas leak has closed all lanes in both directions in the USA 27 in the Western Palm Beach County.

According to Fire Rescue from Palm Beach County, the US 27 is closed in both directions from SR 80 in South Bay to the Broward County Line. US 27 is closed for all traffic until the gas line can be switched off and bled. The road will be opened again when there is no more gas in the gas line. PBCFR also advised the travelers to keep themselves away from the area during the night and the morning hours so that the workers can repair the leak.

PBCFR says that around 4:30 p.m. the units at the intersection of the County Road 827 and US 27 in Palm Beach County were sent after they had received calls via a gas leak. 911 callers told the crews that the workers had hit an underground line that led to the gas flee.

When the crews arrived at the scene, they found a large gas leaf with dirt, rubble and gas that blow about 30 feet into the air. PBCFR spoke to the Florida Public Utilities Company (FPU), which confirmed that there was a large crack in the 6-inch high-pressure metal gas line.

PBCFR says that this type of gas line cannot be clamped. Instead, it has to be switched off, the remaining pressure must then be released and then the FPU can dig and remove the damaged pipe.

According to PBCFR, FPU brings resources from the entire sunshine to repair the broken line. However, it is expected that it is a lengthy process.

Due to the leak and broken gas pipe, travelers should expect periodic closings. No injuries were reported.
