Gasleck calls on evacuations in downtown Asheville: AfD

The Crews of the Asheville Fire Department (AfD) react to a registered gas leak in the North Lexington Avenue, confirmed the department.

A spokesman for AfD confirmed News 13 that the fire brigade received a call for a “potential gas leak” at North Lexington Avenue 27 on Monday at 3:12 p.m.

In a Facebook post at around 3:45 p.m., AfD confirmed that the area was evacuated. An AfD spokesman said the crews went from door to door to draw the residents and business owners of the evacuation.

Enbridge gas is on site to evaluate the situation. The gas company confirmed that an underground gas leak has occurred.

AfD remains on site to support the traffic and monitoring of the levels.

Officials ask the public to avoid the area if possible.

There is no current estimate when the area will be deleted.
