Gasleck closes Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Chapel Hill during 5 p.m. Rush

One of the main traffic roads of Chapel Hill is facing a closure on Wednesday afternoon due to a gas leak.

The driver and parishioners informed Chapelboro that the traffic was stopped at around 5:45 p.m. along Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. Shortly afterwards, the city of the city of Chapel Hill and the Sheriff's office of Orange County announced notifications that a gas leak caused the prosecution to close the street in both directions between Estes Drive and Ashley Forest Road. According to city officials, no evacuations were ordered from 6 p.m.

Chapel Hill asked the members of the community in the Ashley Forest Road neighborhood to access Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard like normal by turning north. However, those in the Timber Hollow Apartment Homes and Shadowood Apartments & Lofts Communities are asked to come and go only if they only travel east on the Piney Mountain Road because the MLK Boulevard is closed at the intersection. Another traffic is encouraged to move the MLK Boulevard corridor if possible.

Chapel Hill Transit said it would be diversion routes that use this MLK boulevard, and the drivers should prepare for delays.

Chapelboro is waiting for a reaction from Enbridge Gas, the main gas provider in the region, to confirm the source of the leak and update repairs.

This is a developing story.
