Gasleck closes the busy Atlanta Road, those in the area who were asked to protect themselves on site

Atlanta, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – A natural gas lick closed a busy road in Atlanta on Thursday.

According to Atlanta Fire and Rescue, the leak occurred in the 1800 block of the Howell Mill Road shortly before 11:30 a.m.

Officials said the crews had a fiber internet line when a gas line was hit.

A spokesman for Atlanta Gas Light said that an contractor who is not connected to the supply company damaged his gas line.

Officials said the traffic was being directed into the Holly Street and the I-75 overpass.

Those in the 1800 Block of Howell Mill Road are recommended to protect on site because the leak took place on a high pressure line, Atlanta Fire and Rescue officers said. Officials said that the surrounding companies are open in this area, but are still asked to protect themselves.

There is no timeline when repairs are complete or when the road is opened again.

Atlanta Gas Light said his crews are working to repair the line.
