Gasleck closes the veterans memorial parkway between us 52 and ind. 38

Lafayette, Ind. – The police closed the Veterans Memorial Parkway between Indiana 38 and the USA 52 on Friday morning, while the crews repair a natural gas leak, said the Lafayette police.

The tree teams working in the area with Hoosier Company Inc., said Karl Stokes, head of Lafayette Fire Battalion, a 6-inch gas line.

According to his website, Hoosier Company installs traffic signals, street signs and lighting. Stokes said the crews drilled Stoplight poles when they hit the gas line.

The gas line is buried quite deep in the ground, said Stokes, and around 11:45 a.m. the crews formulated a plan of how the line is to be repaired.

The gas line feeds the industry in the area on the city's southeast side, so that they do not want to turn off the gas flow, said Stokes.

There is no estimate of how long the road could be closed, said the police and Stokes.

Drivers are encouraged to look for alternative routes, which indicates that the Creasy Lane could be the next detour, the police said.
