Gasleck in Sugar House causes the street

This is a developing story. ABC4 will update this post how new information is available.

Salt Lake City (ABC4) – A street in the neighborhood of Sugar House was closed on Monday afternoon after a gas leak. After almost an hour, officials said that the gas leak was switched off.

According to Captain Chad Jepperson from the fire brigade of Salt Lake City, the leak was caused by the construction in the area, and the gas had escaped from a steel line to 2100 South near 700 East.

The fire brigade asked people to avoid the area, and two companies that lost their gas supply were evacuated. Other companies in the region have been instructed to protect themselves.

Jepperson said the incident was taken on Monday shortly after 4 p.m., and the gas left outside and did not go into buildings. The two companies were evacuated because their gas supply was affected, but not because gas went into the buildings.

ABC4.com has a crew that goes into the scene to learn more about the situation.
