A criminal investigation into the death of Gene Hackman and his wife Betsy Arakawa started on Wednesday after the new Mexico authorities had found the couple and one of their dogs in their house in Santa Fe.

Detectives believe that the circumstances in connection with the death of Hackman and his wife, a classic pianist, are suspicious enough to require a thorough search and examination. Officials confirmed that no external trauma was observed on Hackman or Arakawa, and the case remains open until the autopsy and toxicology results.

In an affidavit that was received by FOX News digitally, the officials found that Arakawa's body was decomposed with bloating on their face and mummification in their hands and feet. Hackman also had the same signs of decomposition as his wife.

The former investigator of Nypd Cold Case, Joseph Giacalone, questioned the skin color on the decomposed bodies, which was not determined in the affidavit of the search command.

“Was the house really hot? Did you have a lot of clothes on? The heat can bring your body into these phases faster,” said Giacom. “You have different phases that you are looking for like the liver mortis that the body is the purple singing of the body and how we call the dependent areas that you can see how long someone was dead. This is all about things.”

He added: “How long are the bodies there?

When two members of the Santa Fe County patrol arrived at the scene, they went to the front of the residence and found the front door Ajar. According to the arrest warrant, they did not observe any signs of forced entry into the house.

After the officers had entered the residence, they immediately watched a bathroom to the left of the front door. The door to the bathroom was opened and they discovered the body of Hackman's wife on the floor.

“From the point of view of an investigator there is evidence. This is something, ultimately the medical examiner or the medical legal investigator will follow. But detectives generally have a good idea of what they look at.”

An orange prescription bottle was also found near Arakawa. The prescription bottle appeared openly, with pills on the worktop.

The former forensic investigator of death, Joseph Scott Morgan, spoke on Thursday about the ongoing studies on “America Reports”.

“We heard that pills are scattered and pills are scattered and the pills absorbed are completely different,” said Morgan.

Morgan said he was also interested in learning more about the room heating that was found next to a test for the Carboxyhemoglobin values near Arakawa's body.

“Not only on Mr. Hackman and his wife, but also, as I can imagine that someone who is involved in veterinary medicine will also take care of this dog to see whether in her system contains carbon monoxide in your system, regardless of what the fire brigade was there and what was not there,” said Morgan.

“In this case you have to be very thorough, very tedious. You will carry out X -ray shots with full body, you will carry out exhaustive external studies before you will ever carry out a complete autopsy.”

Dr. Michael Baden, former chief searcher from New York City, forensicist pathologist and FOX News -actor, said that the authorities would probably wait for a toxicological report that would include tests for carbon monoxide poisoning.

“It looks like they have died of a kind of toxicity,” said Baden. “I think carbon monoxide is the first that you have to look for in the autopsy, because if it is carbon monoxide in the body, it would not disappear.”

Baden said that carbon monoxide “is so firmly bound to red blood cells that it will stay there for years”. He also found that a big reference to carbon monoxide poisoning is “the color of the skin”.

“A pink skin color immediately makes it obvious that it is a carbon monoxide poisoning, but you couldn't see this color very clearly in a decomposing body,” said Baden.

With regard to the mumification process, different variables can come into play, especially. Baden said that the process can take place between a few days and a week or something due to higher temperatures.

The authorities most likely noticed any skin changes due to the body's decomposition stages. “The decomposition really changes the skin color,” said Baden.

There are still questions about how two of the dogs survived without their owners to take care of them. It is unclear how long Hackman and Arakawa were dead when officials discovered their bodies, but the affidavit of the search stated that their two dogs were “healthy” when the authorities found the animals.

Maria Dello, a dog trainer and nutritionist, explained Fox News Digital that the German Shepard breed would never harm its owner, especially under these circumstances.

“They would protect them. You know that these dogs would die for you,” said Dello. “They are so loyal companions. They live for their owners.”

The deceased dog was found in a bathroom cabinet near Arakawa's body, but two healthy dogs were also on the property. One ran loosely while the other was seen near Arakawa's body.

“If I had to speculate, the one who died was probably older people,” said Dello. “They are hard dogs. They are used in the military.”

During its investigation, the sheriff department did not discover a visible trauma. You have not excluded the couple, the victim of a double murder, suicide, accidental death or natural causes.
