The authorities in New Mexico cited an investigation into the death of Gene Hackman and his wife, the classic pianist Betsy Arakawa, after the official found the couple dead in their house in Santa Fe almost a week ago.

While the bodies of Hackman and Arakawa were found among the detective as “suspicious” circumstances, civil servants confirmed that no external trauma was seen on Hackman or Arakawa, and the case remains open until the results of the autopsy and toxicological activities are open.

Detective have restored two mobile phones, orange prescription bottle and a planner from 2025, when inspecting the residence in accordance with the residence list preserved by FOX News Digital.

Former FBI investigator Bill Daly explained Fox News Digital why every evidence plays a crucial role in finding when and how Hackman and his wife died.

“After receiving the mobile phones, the investigators can determine when they stopped moving when they lost communication, which can recognize the time of disability or death,” said Daly.

Daly noted that the investigators probably “if the pacemaker signal no longer worked” in order to get a better indication of Hackman's date of death.

“You can spend the property around the property to see what was pinging during this time, although you are unable to see who can see without an arrest warrant, but can see which activities there were before and after, even if you do not suspect a bad game,” he said.

Gene Hackman, woman tests negatively for carbon monoxide: sheriff

Hackman and Arakawa tested Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza negative for carbon monoxide, confirmed at the press conference on Friday. Her apartment was tested for colorless, odorless gas and cleared by the fire brigade of Santa Fe City after the authorities had not found any evidence of a carbon monoxide leak or poisoning.

Mendoza confirmed that the last recorded activity took place on Hackman's pacemaker on February 17. The authorities assumed that this Hackman's last day was alive because the body of the Oscar winner was not discovered for nine days.

“According to the pathologist, I think that this is a very good assumption that this was his last day of life,” said Mendoza during the press conference.

Hackman and Arakawa were found by maintenance workers Jesse Kesler and Roland Lowe Begay. Kesler, who worked for the couple for 16 years, presented the hectic 911 call on February 26.

“You will take a look at the surrounding community,” said Daly about the closed community in which Hackman and Arakawa lived. “You could see whether there was movement in and out of the property after death. There could be some cameras in and around your house to look at it to put it together.”

Peter Valentin, certified senior crime scene analyst, asked whether the postmortal interval – the period or the time between death and discovery – was the same for Hackman and his wife.

In an affidavit that was received by FOX News digitally, the officials found that Arakawa's body was decomposed with bloating on their face and mummification in their hands and feet. Hackman also had the same signs of decomposition as his wife.

“There was something in the way his wife was described in the bathroom that is worth looking at a little more,” said Valentin. “And she was in the bathroom. I think there was room heating and there were some pills that were scattered and I don't know where when this space heater has been switched on. That could change the way its decomposition looks.”

Valentin noticed that “a heat source near the remains really changes. The decomposition rate”.

“Mumification occurs when they have warm and low air humidity, and that is exactly what you get when you have a body next to a heating source like a heater or like a cooler,” he said.

“However, if the suggestion is that it fell and had an accident, there would have been a kind of injury to this fall, a perimort injury. It would have had a head trauma. It would have had a bleeding.

Valentin said that the authorities “probably counted the pills near their body, and checked when the recipe was filled to work backwards and find a dosage plan to rule out possible theories.

“Thinking is that the pills have been deliberately consumed, and this is an overdose or something like that,” said Valentin. “When it comes to deliberate actions, a person does not really fall on the ground in a living space. They tend to sit down, to sit down, you know, they know what they do. They know what will happen and they prepare for it.

“This is not what you see in both situations … The fact that the pills fell when they fell, or if the pill container was open, does not necessarily mean that it has something to do with anything. It could have been open.”

He added.
