While the examination of the causes of death for Gene Hackman and Ms. Betsy Arakawa continues, the possibility of a gas leak in your house seems to be clearly excluded.

On Tuesday, the Santa Fe County sheriff office gave up an update based on the New Mexico Gas Company, “Extensive examinations for gas leaks and carbon monoxide in Gene Hackmans House”, which was carried out on the evening of February 26th.

“There were no significant results. NMGC spent five (5) red tags. A red day was for a tiny leak (0.33% gas in air – no fatal amount) at one of the stove burners,” says the press release. “The other four red tags were enforced for violations of the code -not with gas leaks or carbon monoxide -an to a hot water and gas bread that are installed in three fireplaces.”

These results “are not accepted as a factor for the death of Gene Hackman, Betsy Arakawa or her dog, said the sheriff's office.

Nevertheless, the results were sent to the medical investigator's office.

The Santa Fe authorities have previously excluded carbon monoxide poisoning

In a press conference last week, the Sheriff department excluded carbon monoxide poisoning as a potential cause of death for the couple and revealed that tests came back negatively.

On February 26, Hackman and Arakawa were found dead by their dog by security officers in Santa Fe, New Mexico in New Mexico. Hackman's pacemaker unveiled “his last event was recorded on February 17, 2025.”

When Hollywood shared the condolences and the memories of the Oscar winner, disturbing details appeared that dealt with the couple's death.

According to an affidavit of the search command, the authorities found the actor in a mud room near his stick and rails, while his wife Arakawa was found in an open bathroom near space heating and an open prescription bottle and pills were scattered on the nearby worktop. A representative observed Arakawa with “body killing, blooming in her face” and mummification of her hands and feet.

One of the couple's dogs was also found in a closet as 15 feet from Arakawa, while two other dogs were found alive in the bathroom near Arakawa and outside. The authorities have described the circumstances as “suspicious” and noted that “no foul game” is suspected at this time.
