Gene Hackman's death examination: what officials say

The examination of Gene Hackman and Ms. Betsy Arakawa's death remains active because the officials determine how the couple died.

The 95 -year -old Hackman and the 64 -year -old Arakawa were found dead on February 26 in Santa Fe, New Mexico, after two maintenance workers had arrived and found that the front door was open, according to the arrest warrant. One of her three dogs was also found dead.

Her deaths were classified for a “thorough search and examination” for a “thorough search and examination” for a “thorough search and examination”.

In a press conference on February 28, Sheriff Adan Mendoza from Santa Fe said that an autopsy was carried out and both were tested negatively for carbon monoxide. The first results did not find an external trauma for one of them. However, official results of the autopsi and toxicologists are pending.

We know the following about Gene Hackman and Ms. Betsy Arakawa's death.

How were they found?

The investigators announced more details to investigate the death of the Oscar winner and the classic pianist in the search command.

The couple was found in various rooms in their house after one of the maintenance workers had contacted the authorities in the afternoon of February 26 at around 1.43 p.m. when they were open to the front door of the residence according to the arrest warrant.

When the deputies of the sheriff arrived at the scene, they found the front door Ajar, according to the arrest warrant, but no signs of forced entry.

In a bathroom on the left of the front door, the MPs found the body of a woman on the ground, which the maintenance workers identified as Arakawa according to the arrest warrant.

A black room heating and an orange prescription pill and pills were found near her head on the worktop, the arrest warrant says. Mendoza refused to comment on the pills during the press conference.

According to the arrest warrant, the deputies found a dead German Shepherd about 10 to 15 feet from the woman's body in a bathroom cabinet.

When the MPs continued to look for the house, they found the body of a man who identified the maintenance workers as Hackman on the floor in the mud room. (In the arrest warrant, the investigators stated that the “true identity” of the man is still unknown until further examinations are pending.) Both bodies showed signs of death and decomposition.

A deputy told the investigators that he suspected that the man suddenly seemed to have been fallen, according to the arrest warrant.

Two other dogs were found alive on the property: one near Arakawa's body and the other outside the residence.

Mendoza said during the press conference that the dogs had access to a dog door so that they could go out in and out of the house. The dead dog was in a kennel or a box, said Mendoza.

How did genes Hackman and Mrs. Betsy Arakawa die?

How Hackman and Arakawa died remains unclear at that time because the examination continues.

The cause of death was not determined by February 28, but Mendoza said there are no signs of external trauma for one of them. The Santa Fe Sheriff had previously told NBC News in a statement that no foul was suspected. Mendoza said, however, that the investigators had “not excluded it”.

According to Mendoza, it was likely that Hackman's “last day of life” was February 17th.

During the press conference on February 28, he found that on February 17, Hackmans Pacemaker from Hackman's Pacemaker recorded an “event”.

It should be noted that Hackman suffered from heart problems.

Mendoza previously said that he had been told that the couple had “died” for a while.

“It is not normal to find two people in their place of residence,” said Mendoza on February 27th. “That is worrying.”

At this point, it is not known when the cause and the type of death are officially determined or when the toxicological results will be received.

Could you have died of carbon monoxide poisoning?

The MPs informed the investigators that the Santa Fe City fire brigade reacted to the scene to carry out tests to determine whether there were signs of a possible carbon monoxide leak. Firefighters found no signs of leak or poisoning according to the arrest warrant.

The New Mexico Gas Company also reacted to the scene, and no signs or indication that problems in connection with the pipes of the house were determined according to the arrest warrant.

While the official results of the autopsy and toxicology reports are pending, Mendoza said on February 28 that both people were negatively tested for carbon monoxide.

What has the investigation discovered so far?

The MPs informed the investigators that all other buildings were blocked and secured after searching the rest of the property. There seemed to be no signs of forced entry or that something was out of place or was taken, said MPs.

The arrest warrant called for the search for materials throughout the house that could help the decision and cause of death, since the investigators found that the “circumstances in connection with the death of the two deceased people are suspicious enough to request a thorough search and examination”.

During the press conference on February 28, Mendoza said that after the search command, two green cell phones, two bottles of medication, a bottle of over -the -counter Tylenol, medical records and a monthly planner of 2025 were secured from the residence for evidence.

The investigators now analyze the mobile phone data, calls, texts, events and photos in the cell phones to put together a timeline, he said.

In addition, Mendoza said: “The Santa Fe Animal Control Division has worked with the family to ensure the security of their two surviving dogs.”
