Scholz says it was a “great honor” when the ninth leader of the post -war period in Germany and that it is important to him to bring his job to an orderly end.

On Monday, Scholz said that the election was bitter for his party the day before and “it didn't get better today”.

“I would like to emphasize that it is a great honor, the ninth Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, the fourth Social Democrat who can fill this job in the history of the Federal Republic,” he said, spoke to his party at the headquarters.

“For me it is very, very important to do this work properly until the last day,” he added.

It is unclear when it will be. The outgoing minority government of Scholz will remain in office, while Friedrich Merz, who was previously the German opposition leader, will try to put together a coalition.
