Google Techie shares tips – Google Techie gives tips to crack coding interviews in Viral LinkedIn Post

A software engineer based in Seattle in Indian-Origin software shared what he described as the best “resource” to crack coding interviews, and to his surprise Google, the tech giant, joined the conversation.

In a now viral contribution about LinkedIn, Sahil Gaba, who has been working on Google for four years, unveiled a groundbreaking approach for workers. According to him, the best resource in an interview is none other than the interviewer.

“The best resource to crack a coding interview: the interviewer,” he said, adding, “Most candidates see interviewers as judges who are waiting to fail. But the truth? You are actually your best resource during the interview.”

He advised the candidates to ask clarifying questions before jumping into the coding, since interviewers often drop subtle information.

Here are the three tips he highlighted:

  1. Make it clear before writing a single code before writing a single code line. “If you ask the right questions, the interviewer cannot help to drop some useful information,” he said.
  2. Think loudly. “When you vocalize your approach, the interviewers you see will spread a wrong way that often gives you in the right direction. Everyone feels a little satisfied when they correct others,” he added.
  3. When I get stuck, panicked in panic tacitly. “Free it as: 'I think about approach A and approach B. I take myself to A because …' This invites the collaboration without asking for direct help,” said Gaba.

Gaba also shared a personal anecdote from his Amazon interview in which he had to deal with a program problem. Instead of panic, he explained two possible approaches.

“During my Amazon interview, I have to fight with a dynamic programming problem. Instead of freezing, I went through two potential approaches and explained my hesitation with everyone,” he said.

Gaba added: “The subtle reaction of my interviewer to the second approach told me everything I had to know.”

His key to taking away? “Always remember that interviewers are also people. You want to have an entertaining conversation and not just evaluate your technical skills,” he added.

Social media user estimated Gaba's insight. “Thank you for shared the interview tips. I am currently visiting coding rounds, but I try to explain my approach and feeling tense. Now I have a clearer picture,” said one user.
