Google's Pixel Watch 3 can see if your heart stops

One of the newer functions of Google Pixel Watch 3 Smartwatch has just deleted the FDA and the loss of the papers.

The function is already available in Great Britain and Europe, but will introduce 3 owners in the USA according to Google to Pixel Watch.

This health and security feature can be compared to the SOS and autumn sensor functions that can be seen in other watches. If the Pixel Watch 3 detects a loss of pulse, the alarm can be increased to emergency services and a message can be sent to your emergency contacts.

As mentioned in Google's summary of the feature from August 2024, this will not do so immediately. The user is asked to respond to a warning, and if this is ignored, the Pixel Watch 3 escalates an audio alarm before taking the last step of contacting rescue services.

It is not only intended to save the lives of those who suffer a hearing attack, but also “breathing or circulatory failure, overdose or poisoning”.

How Pixel Watch 3S works pulse loss

One of the most important difficulties to make this function useful from a technical point of view is to minimize the effect of false positive impulse loss measurements. According to Google, it is based on a AI algorithm that was developed with “hundreds of thousands of hours with real life data from a diverse group of people”.

It was also tested with “stunt actors” who wore tournique to simulate the loss of pulse, and then carried out the kind of fall or movement that could go hand in hand with such a real event.

As in almost all other wearables, the Pixel Watch 3 mainly uses light sensors and green LEDs to tell a person's pulse. Varier mirrors of reflected light indicate the relative blood flow in the vessels in the underside of the wrist of a person.

In the event of a possible loss of pulse, the Pixel Watch 3 also uses the red LEDs of the heart rate sensor to look for a pulse. These are typically used to determine the blood oxygen supply and not as a simple heart rate.

Google's loss of pulse could be seen as a natural development of the irregular characteristic to notify heartbeat in some pixel, fitbit and Garmin watches. And with luck, it could help save some lives. Google claims that it is a function of “first-is there”.
