Green card holder stripped naked, “violently interrogated” by US officials: Report | Deployment

A German National and US Green Card owner, Fabian Schmidt, was returned to the country by the US immigration authorities on March 7. Schmidt (34), who has lived in the United States since his teenager and currently lives in New Hampshire, was stopped after his return to New Hampshire.

Schmidt's mother, Astrid Senior, expressed deep need about the incident. “I feel shaken. It is incredible what is happening now,” she said to The Boston Globe.

“It was only said that his Green Card was displayed,” senior told WGBH. She said that her son was “interrogated violently”, naked by immigration officers and brought into a cold shower.

Senior said that her son Fabian Schmidt's green card was legally reissued in 2023 after he had lost his previous one. Nevertheless, it was characterized when he tried to reinstate the United States.

ICE referred inquiries to US -Colle and Border Protection (CBP), which rejected it to reveal specific details on the case of Schmidt, citing federal federal laws. “If statutes or visa conditions are violated, travelers can be detained and removed,” said Hilton Beckham, deputy commissioner for public matters of CBP.

Outrage in social media

Schmidt's case is part of a growing trend of the legal permanent residents of the United States, which are arrested at airports with increasing immigration investigation. The case has triggered indignation online and raised questions about the enforcement and abuse of immigration laws.

President Donald Trump campaigned for the enforcement of stricter immigration policy and initially concentrated on undocumented people with a criminal register. In the past few weeks, however, reports on the owners of Green Card and people with valid visas have appeared who are faced with a similar treatment.

“So you only tortured a German man for no reason?” asked an X user.

“Don't make a mistake, it's not about protecting our national security. This is simply the xenophobic agenda of the Trump Administrator,” said another.
