Griswold 3-point shooting fun to watch

I just thought I would empty the notebook of my reporter, while I wished all our local high school basketball teams in the CIAC State tournament this week.

It rains threesome

Two of the hardest high schools for basketball teams who find their outdoor gravel are Francis X. Sweeney Field House and the Mohegan Sun Arena. Knowing shooters. You will tell you in a flashing eye the name of your favorite places and the venues that you still follow.

The gyms in Waterford and Uncasville, however, did not seem to disturb the Griswold -Jungen -Basketball team.

My first look at the Wolverines shootout took place in early January when they took 13 3 points to the Edge Norwich Free Academy. A month later I saw Griswold made a 3-point dagger after the other in one big win against Killing.

Nevertheless, I was amazed by Griswold's marksmanship against Ledyard and Montville in the tournament of the Division II Eastern Connecticut Conference. After the Wolverines took 12 out of 21 3-point recordings against Ledyard in Sweeney Field House in a semi-final round, three days later they strolled into the “largest arena of the Americas” and a case for their own green banners in the rafters, right next to Billy Joel.

The Wolverines have deleted 15 threes against Montville on the way to winning their second ECC tournament championship for three years. Griswold's ECC semi-final and final total number of beyond the arch: 27-of-48. Yes, that is 56 percent from the city center.

The Wolverines shootout against Montivlle was exciting. It was like watching a team full of Pat Bradley. (Ok … for those among them who do not know “The Shootah”, Bradley played in Massachusetts in Massachusetts in Nolan Richardson's Arkansa Razorbacks in 1996. Bradley scored a 3-point Field goal in 60 consecutive games.

The Wolverines spread wealth. You cannot leave any of the five starters – Kaiden Kazlauskas, Kolby Mills, Aaden Cutter, Nick Watters, Brayden Weidner – Open. Griswold even has snipers that come from the bank like the seniors Aiden Pantse and Carmelo Curtis.

“They work in basketball to get open shots, and if you can put them in, shoot it,” said Griswold coach Rob Mileski. “The whole goal is to shoot open shots. You can put down these boys. If these boys are open, don't think about it twice. When the ball is a lot of fun in the game. “

In fact.

We hope that the Wolverines will remain hot for two weeks and make a return trip to the sun for the final of the IV federal state. I love it when it rains in three.

Norwich Sports Hall of Fame

Matt Hinchey and the good people in the Norwich Sports Hall of Fame are still looking for résumés for the class from 2025. The deadline for submitting nominations ends on March 5. The curriculum vitae can be submitted to Norwichsportshalloffame.org.

The Norwich Sports Hall of Fame has recognized the achievements and honor of the legendary Norwich athletes and trainers since 1968. The Hall of Fame Awards Awards Awards High School Scholarships and Honors of the People who offer an outstanding non -profit service. The Hall of Fame is sponsored by the Thamesville Athletic Club in Norwich and also recognizes a “sports person of the year”.

Norwich's largest sporting events are also highlighted by the hall. My favorite is the Norwich Bulletin Record Basketball tournament.

The BR -Tournier started in 1938 and ended in the early 1980s. It was founded by Lester Pingree and quickly became the leading post -season basketball tournament in Neugin.

The tournament sponsored by the Norwich Bulletin took place in March and contained some of the best college basketball players in New England. Marvin Barnes, Jack “The Shot” Foley, Tony Hanson, Bob Bigelow, Wayne Lawrence and Toby Kimball were just a few of the stars who delighted Norwich Hoop fans. And who remembers these teams: Marco Polo Explorers, Milford Chiefs, Don Coyle's House of Champions, Shyma Club from Taftville and Ogulnick Jewelers?

I would have estimated to have a press seat for the basketball tournament of Norwich Bulletin record.

Again … the deadline for nominations for the Norwich Sports Hall of Fame Class from 2025 ends this Wednesday, March 5.

Some comments and observations …

  • The Uconn Women's Basketball team becomes healthy and reached at the right time. Each team with Paige Bueckers and Azzi Fudd, who play with full strength and run on all cylinders, has the chance to reduce the networks in Tampa, Florida on April 6th.
  • Uconn, Yale, Quinnipiac and Central Connecticut State University all have the chance to enter the 68-team field of the NCAA men's basketball tournament. I can't wait to select CBS on March 16 at 6 p.m. Bring the brackets with you! Enter Kenny Loggins that sing “This is it”. The Final Four are 5th to April 7th in the alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. Here are my early last four predictions: Duke, Auburn, St. Mary's and St. John's.
  • Speaking of NCAA tournament … there is no better place than Everett (mass.) Mike Walsh's annual NCAA tournament party. Almost 40 consecutive years gather and 40 to 50 of his closest friends gather for a day full of tires, laughter, memories, storage and the effective bet of one or two fabric. This year's reunification is in Boston's largest bar. As the powerful J. Geils band would say, “I just can't wait”.
  • It looks like the Boston Bruins are missing the Stanley Cup tournament this season. Yup, Bobby Orr, Derek Sanderson and Gerry Cheevers don't go through the door soon.
  • Caitlin Clark is still the goat. And nobody will convince me otherwise.
  • Who should play the third basis for the Boston Red Sox? It's simple. Alex Bregman was the Gold Glove winner of the third base for the Houston Astros in 2024. Bregman now plays for the Red Sox. Rafael Devers has led the American League in third place since 2018. The Red Sox pays Bregman and Devert an obscene amount of money. Devers should concentrate on becoming the next David Ortiz of the SOX, which led the SOX as the designated Schlagmann to three World Series championships.

Stuck in the 70s

On March 3, 1971, the Boston Celtics defeated the San Diego Rockets, 128-113, in Boston Garden. Jo Jo White led the Celts with 34 points, while John Havlicek had a triple double with 26 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists.

Elvin Hayes Goss 3 35 points and Norwalk High-Star Calvin Murphy added 20 points for the Rockets, which moved to Houston the following season.

Also for the Rockets, the native of Toby Kimball in Framingham (mass.), Who was played at Uconn and was worked out by the Celtics, from the bank and scored four points, while Weaver (Hartford) and Providence Legende Johnny Egan, who contained an NBA career, recorded with two finals with the Los Angeles Lakers was scored two points with two points.

The 22-year-old rookie sensation of Boston, Dave Cowens, scored 19 points and scored 24 rebounds that night. In the 1970/71 season, Cowens scored an average of 17 points and 15 rebounds and was elected the co-rookie of the year of the NBA with Geoff Petrie in Portland.
