Harmonic starts hybrid cloud-edge video streaming solution

New video streaming innovation delivers unsurpassed flexibility and cost savings for service providers and radio operators

San Jose, California.Present March 13, 2025 / Prnewswire/ -Harmonic (Nasdaq: HLIT) has announced a breakthrough in the video streaming innovation with the start of new origin functions. Service providers and transmitters can use the new original functions via Harmonics VOS^® Family and XOS Advanced Media processor to optimize efficiency and flexibility and at the same time reduce costs. The origin attacks are presented in the harmonious status of the NAB show 2025.

A hybrid original solution for service providers
The new Harmonic origin functions combine cloud and on-premise memory by using VOS360 Media SaaS and VOS media software. This hybrid approach occupies the efficiency and elasticity of the cloud for less frequently accessible content and at the same time uses a local memory for fresh video assets. Older content, including NPVR assets, are automatically moved into the cloud memory.

The cloud-native solution is easy to configure because it uses the same intuitive user interface for all media processing functions. Service providers can efficiently scale the memory based on demand by using a local infrastructure for fixed workloads and using the cloud scalability for large assets. This balanced strategy improves flexibility and lowers the cloud storage costs.

Stromlined playout to delivery for radio operators
Harmonic also introduces live and time shift functions in the XOS Advanced Media Processor. Harmonic enables the transmitters to summarize the functionality of origin in the XOS media processor, and make it possible to stream live content using a single appliance directly on CDNs, to minimize operational complexity and reduce hardware costs. The plug-and-play solution is ideal for live and time postponement content and offers users simply with a deploy and inexpensive option.
