Hatcher satisfied with the first spring practice

Birmingham, ala. – The Samford University's football team opened the spring training with almost two hours of training in shorts and helmets on Monday afternoon at Pete Hanna Stadium.

“I thought it was a good day”, Samford head coach Chris Hatcher said. “We have a lot of new faces, of course a brand new defensive program and a special team scheme. I thought our boys handled it well. The biggest thing I saw was that our boys looked like they enjoyed there today.”

Hatcher enters his 11TH Season as head coach of Bulldogs. He is the most profitable trainer in the program history. Hatcher said he saw some good things on both sides of the ball during the opening training on Monday.

“We flown around today on the first day,” said Hatcher. “We saw some good things. We defensively forced some sales, but we gave up a few big games on this side of the ball. We sometimes went very well offensive today. So, all-in-all it was a good first day. Hopefully we'll get a little better and will come a little warlike on Wednesday.”

Samford will return to training on Wednesday at 4:15 p.m. The bulldogs will go through two scrimmages during the spring training, with the scrimmages for March 28th and April 4th.

Samford will open the 2025 season with West Georgia on Thursday, August 28th, at Pete Hanna Stadium.
