Although record deer from all counties were recorded, the counties Aiken, Anderson and Orangeburg have produced the largest figures in the past three to four years. In general, larger deer in areas with fewer deer are more common compared to parts of the state with high deer numbers.

Hunters must present the necessary documentation such as the date and the county of the kill and sign a “fair chase” if they bring in a series of antlers for the measurement. Incone in velvet or those that are broken and repaired or separated from the skull plate cannot be officially measured for the list of state records. If the lower jawbone of the animal is extracted during the taxididermie or saved in any other way, it should be brought into the measurement so that biologists can determine the age of the deer. A precise weight measurement at the time of the kill is also helpful.
