House explosion and fire claim life in Harristown

On Saturday, a devastating explosion and a fire broke out in Harristown and demanded a person's life.

According to the Central Illinois Regional Dispatch Center (CIRDC), the incident occurred near 12:24 p.m. near the S. Twinlakes Road and W. Main Street.

The CIRDC received several 9-1-1 calls in which they reported the explosion and fire, which prompted the immediate shipping of the Harristown Fire Protection District. Firefighters from Niantic, South Wheatland and Warrenburg fire protection districts also reacted to the scene.

On arrival, first aiders found a badly damaged structure in flames. Firefighters quickly worked to contain the fire and prevent further destruction.

The cause and origin of the explosion and the fire are currently being examined by the Illinois State Fire Marshal.
