How to save your Kindle eBooks from February 26

Amazon removes the option of downloading Kindle eBooks to your PC on February 26, 2025. Yes, that contains E -Books that you have already bought and bound to your Amazon account.

It is another sober memory that we really have nothing in a digital format. Even worse, Amazon did not do an exactly big deal of the news, hoping to kill the feature quietly.

If you have not downloaded a Kindle E -book lately, you probably have not seen the warning. It is a small paragraph in the pop-up e-book menu, which is indicated:

From February 26, 2025, the “Download & Transfer via USB” option is no longer available. You can continue to send books to your Wi-Fi-enabled devices by selecting the “Remove or remove the delivery or removal of devices” option.

To be clear, Amazon eBooks can still download directly to a Kindle via WLAN after February 26.

For many users, this will not really change how to use their Kindle. For others, however, it is a larger deal.

I understand that digital eBooks are much easier to share, which leads to considering piracy. I also understand that a company like Amazon wants to protect his Kindle ecosystem.

However, if you accept the most productive hardware and digital platform in the world and suddenly kill a large function, the users will probably not be pleased.

It is also the question of Amazon's tendency to delete eBooks without warning. Consider the following: You buy an eBook at Amazon and download it directly to your Kindle (as there is no other option).

Amazon realizes that the book was not legally distributed (even though you bought it from his business) or not for sale (possibly due to language or subject), and it is suddenly removed from your library.

This scenario has taken place with some top -class books in the past, and there is no guarantee that it will not happen again. After you cannot download your Kindle eBooks to your PC, Amazon has complete control over what you bought.

Without Downloads PC downloads, you can no longer change file types to meet other ereader or devices that you may have. Do you want a book that is only sold at Amazon? You should better hope that you have a Kindle. Do you have an old Kindle without a Wi-Fi connection? You are lucky too.

How can I save my Kindle eBooks before downloading?

You have a few days before the download ban on February 26 to save your Kindle -E books on your PC. Here is the simple method:

Go to Amazon.com and register in your Amazon account.
Float Accounts & lists in the upper right corner.
Click on Content and devices.

Here you will find a list of your linked Amazon devices and the Kindle E books that you bought on your account.

You can click on individual eBooks to download them. Just enter the one Further actions Menu and select Download & Transfer via USB.

This method works excellently if you only have a handful of Kindle -E books that are bound to your account. What happens if you have a massive library and have no time to download each E -Book individually?

Pay attention

YouTube Channel “How to Doing Stuff” also creates great instructions for the use of Tampermonkey and Github browser scripts to download your Kindle books from Amazon.

Simply take the tampermonkey browser expansion for Edge, Chrome, Firefox, Safari or Opera next and then the Github screenplay by Daniel Winkler. This method opens up the opportunity to download your Kindle eBooks from the Amazon website.

Daniel Rubino from Windows Central used this method to save all of his Kindle -E books from February 26, and he gave me some screenshots of the process. As you can see, it is a clean surface added next to your books, so that you can quickly filter what is downloaded.

As soon as you have selected the books, simply click the “Trigger download” button in the upper right corner.

What you do with your downloaded Kindle eBooks is with you. I don't promote anything illegal; This is simply a way to stick to the content you bought legally.

Is there a better alternative to Kindle?

Amazon's Kindle is certainly not the only viable ereader on the market. I have a Kobo Clara 2E device that I absolutely love, but there are other options from Nook, Boox and remarkable.

In contrast to the Kindle and its proprietary file types, which do not work for other ereader, something like the Kobo Clara Epub files uses that are much easier to share for their devices.

Yes, there are opportunities to take DRM off and convert your Kindle books into something like Epub, but I will search the method myself.

In my case, I am disappointed that I can no longer obtain certain eBooks from Amazon to use them with my non-saxes. I understand that Amazon wants to protect his Kindle ecosystem, but this step will undoubtedly bring more people towards piracy.
