Ida, Dundee, Erie Mason start districts with victories

New Boston – Tim Leonard and Bryan Parran have trained many basketball games against each other.

Each has been on the edge for girls -university teams in the Monroe County region for more than three decades. For many of these seasons, they had teams in the same league, which means they played at least twice a year.

You know each other very well.

This probably explains why it is difficult to get when your teams meet.

That was certainly the case on Monday when Leonards Ida squad won a 39:23 victory over Jefferson in the opening game of the 2 District Division in New Boston Huron.

In the first half, Jefferson was recorded on just 4 points.

Ida had a 12-point advantage during the break, but fought offensive himself. Leonard admitted that his team may have suffered from a nervousness of the first game of the State Surrent.

“It shouldn't be,” said Leonard. “You should just come and do what you can do best, but sometimes you try to do more than you are physically capable.”

Senior Reese Hennessey made the best of her skills that achieved 18 points and 20 rebounds.

“Reese has really strengthened the last games,” said Leonard.

Jessica Scrader added 15 points for the 13-10 Blue Streaks, which climbed on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. for the district semi-final against the airport.

Jefferson ends with a 9-14 record.

“It was a good year,” said Parran. “We won nine games. I think this is most of it for Jefferson in 25 years.

Lindsey Gennoe and Gracie Jones each had 5 points to keep the bears.

“We couldn't score in the first half,” said Parran. “We missed some layups. That was our Achilles heel. We run our offensive and get layups, but you cannot do it.

“These are great children. I hate losing these seniors. “
