'Ignore it' | The Sheriff's office of the Blount County Warn

Maryville, Tenn. (Wvlt) – The Sheriff's office of Blount County warns the residents of a new fraud.

According to Sheriff James Lee Berrong, his emergency communication district received several reports from a fraudster on Sunday who claimed to be a law enforcement authorities and to tell the victims that they have to pay 1,200 US dollars for an ankle monitor after their release from prison.

Berrong said neither the sheriff's office nor an agency in Blount County will call someone after being released from prison to tell them that they have to pay for an ankle monitor.

The sheriff's office said that all bond conditions are included before a person is released from prison.

“The sheriff's office can call individuals for routine business, but they are never asked to deliver the payment on the phone,” said Berrong. “The MPs will not ask you to meet in random places to pay for anything.”

The sheriff's office should ignore these calls if you receive one.
