IHSAA provides new districts to prepare the football squad – Newton Daily News

The Iowa High School Athletic Association publishes new high school football districts every two seasons.

The programs go up or down on the basis of the enrollment and some other factors. Many of them have remained in the same class in the past seasons.

The new districts were released on Wednesday and four of the five area cadres will experience the majority of the new opponents in the next two -year cycle.

“I like that the districts change every two years,” said Newton head coach Andy Swedenhjelm. “It mixes who you see a bit, and the (IHSAA) has better done to make the districts more balanced if you can.

“The only negative is that we would be happy to prepare a lot for the coming season in the off -season, so that we will become a little impatient in new orientation years if we don't know who and what we have to learn. But that's a pretty little problem. “

While non-distributors are not yet known, the only team in class 4a district in Newton is that the cardinals played last season.

PCM receives a completely new district in 2a, Colfax-Mingo falls on class A and is again in the same district with the competitor of the South Iowa Cedar League Lynnville Sully and Baxter's 8-man district with five opponents that were not on the schedule of the bolts last year.

And Zach Hasselbrink, until the approval of the board, is Baxter's election as the next football coach. Hasselbrink, who has been the defensive coordinator in the past seasons, takes over the long -time head coach Rob Luther, who had resigned from his position in the past season.

“We go to places that we usually weren't like what is similar to the last cycle,” said Hasselbrink. “It feels like another round with some high -quality opponents of the district who have set up programs and years of success year after year.”

Newton (6-4 last year) is accompanied by Pella, Clear Creek-AMana, Marion, Oscaloosa and GRRENEL in 4a District 4.

Pella ended the 11-2 and reached the 4A championship game last year. The Dutch parked Newton in the district of 35-28, but the cardinals have won two of the last three meetings against their rivals.

Newton has been against CCA (6: 4) against CCA: 2 since 2014, but the cardinals won the last meeting with 27: 0 in 2022.

Both Oskaloosa and Marion have 2-7 seasons. The cardinals have never played Marion, but the Indians have been 4: 3 against Newton since 2010. The last meeting between Newton and Oskaloosa ended in 2022 with a 56-10 cardinal victory.

GRENNELL was 6-3 in 3a last season. The tigers have been 6-2 since 2012 and the last two meetings ended in 2020 with GRENELL-SIEN (57-13 and 44-23).

A further change compared to the last cycle comprises two of the non-distributors of Newton-Dallas Center-Grimes and Norwalk, both of whom are on 5a.

“We feel good in our district,” said Schwedenhjelm. “It is full of teams that we are generally quite familiar with outside of Marion. There are a number of quality teams that will be fun. Our children have processed their cocks and are happy to start. “

PCM stays in 2a and will be in District 7 with Albia, Centerville, Davis County, South Tama County and Pella Christian.

Shay Burns

South Tama dropped to 2a after he ended 0: 9 in 3a and Pella Christian to 2a after gone in 1a 3-6 last season.

The only opponent of the district who was on PCM's schedule last season was Pella Christian, but the Mustangs defeated the Eagles with 59: 7 in a non-distribution campaign. The Mustangs have an 11-1 season in which they reached the state semi-finals.

Pella Christian has headed the 10-7 series since 2008 and the two teams have played every season since then. The Eagles were mostly in 1a, but the two teams were in the same 2a district in 2010 and 2011.

Albia, Centerville and Davis County have been in the PCM district in recent years. The Mustangs registered five victories in a row against Albia (4-5), used six in a row about Davis County (3-5) and defeated centerville (4-5) seven times in a row.

“I thought it was something similar to what we had,” said Greg Bonnett, head coach of the PCM boss. “As always, we will take what we get, but I'm happy about it in terms of travel. I like it if our fans don't have to drive 2.5 hours for a game. There are some very good teams with very good trainers, so I know that it will be a difficult task to win the district. “

Wyatt Carpenter

A traditional non-district opponent in Pella Christian could make things for PCM more difficult in terms of whom in the non-distributor. The Eagles were one that the Mustangs could play every year.

“The schedule for non-distributors was traditionally difficult for us to have agreed each other,” said Bonnett. “Since Pella Christian is not an option this time, it is a game who pays where and how everything.”

Colfax-Mingo and Lynnville Sully are from BGM, Earlham, Madrid, Martensdale-St. Marys and North Mahaska.

Two of these programs were in different classes last year. The Tigerhawks move after 1: 7 in 1a and BGM again to 11-man football after he was completed in 8-man man with 4: 5 last season.

“Class A is that I grew up in and is my favorite football brand, so I'm very excited about it,” said Draker Buscherfield, head coach of the Colfax Mingo head coach. “The district with four SICL schools should provide some funny rivalry games. Every school in the district alongside Earlham (41) had 31-36 children on their squad last year, which is nice to see. “

While Colfax-Mingo's district has no one to offer that it played last season, Lynnville-Sully's schedule contains a trio of well-known enemies in North Mahaska, Madrid and Martensdale-St. Marys.

The Hawks went 5-4 last season. Two of these victories came against the Sicl rivals Warhawks (4-4) and Martensdale-St. Marys (0-8). They also lost to the Madrid district champion, which ended 9: 3.

The Tigerhawks have bounced back and forth from one to 1a in the last seasons. For the first time since the seasons 2021 and 2022, they are back in class A.

Colfax-Mingo and North Mahaska have changed in their last six meetings.

The Tigerhawks last stood against Martensdale-St. Marys in 2020 and defeated the Blue Devils 41-23.

Dawson James Jack Bowlin

Madrid has been 2-0 against cm since 2021, and the Tigerhawks have been against BGM 0: 4 since 2014, but last played in 2017.

The most recent meeting between Colfax-Mingo and Earlham (6-3 last year) led to a 29:6 win after the season in 2015.

Lynnville Sully has been 6-3 against Colfax-Mingo since 2014. The two teams last played against each other in 2022.

Madrid won two in a row against Lynnville Sully, but the Hawks won the last two meetings against both Martensdale-STs. Marys and North Mahaska.

Earlham has been 2-1 against the Hawks since 2008, but Lynnville Sully defeated the cardinals with 49: 16 in the opening round of the Playoffs 2022.

BGM has been 7-3 against Lynnville Sully since 2010, but the Hawks won the latest meetings with 32-7 and 20-12 in 2017 and 2016.

Nick Thomason

“Looks like a great district,” said Mike Parkinson's, football coach of the Lynnville Sully head coach. “It should be hard, but I'm glad that we have some Sicl schools there.”

Baxter, together with Melcher-Dallas, Montezuma, Moravia, Southeast Warren, Twin Cedars and Wayne, will be part of the 8-man man in class 8-man man, who falls on the 8-man value after 5: 4 last season.

The bolts have a 3-5 season. The only team that was exposed to Baxter in the last two seasons was Montezuma, which has been 3-1 against the bolts since 2021. The Braves (10-2) defeated Baxter last season 55: 44.

Baxter has never confronted Wayne or Southeast Warren. And the last meeting between the screws and Moravia ended in 2020 with a 36-21 Baxter victory.

Since 2019, the screws had no problems against Melcher-Dallas (2-8) or Twin Cedars (0-9).

Stadaner Vanice

The last two meetings of Baxter against the Sabres led to victories of 82-6 and 72: 0, but Twin Cedars defeated the Bolts 66-64 in 2018.

Melcher-Dallas dropped Baxter 52: 0 in 2018, but since then the bolts have registered victories of 64-0, 68-0 and 74-3.

“We played Melcher-Dallas and Twin Cedars in a former district cycle,” said Hasselbrink. “Montezuma has become a common enemy over the years, which has led to some great battles and bring back some top end talents.

“We have a certain level of Southeast Warren when coach Rowlands brings his team to our annual 5-to-5 event every year. Unknowns for us are Moravian and Wayne, but it looks as if Wayne had a solid team in class A in the last year. So we expect that they are hard, and Moravia has also been successful in 8-man success. “
