Illegal marijuana sales represent the challenges of the legal industry in Nevada

Las Vegas, nev. (FOX5) – According to the supervisory authorities, illegal cannabis sales from criminal networks have reduced profits all over Nevada in legal institutions.

This week, the supervisory authorities presented the figures to a Senate committee when legislators discussed the opportunities for the enforcement and opportunities to discourage the illegal market with the proposed assembly laws.

Freizeitmarihuana has been legal in Nevada since 2017.

From 2022 to 2024, the reported profits decreased in the nationwide decline in the total gains. Officials of the Cannabis Compliance board report that the extended marijuana access all over the country will decrease nationwide. The illegal sales also contribute to less.

The waste ultimately affects education: fewer tax revenues are transferred to the state education fund every year.

A study commissioned in 2023 showed that 21% of all marijuana sales across Nevada are illegal that have a profit of 242 million US dollars of $ 242 million.

“Deliveries are open … What has to happen to close it?” Asked Senator John Steinbeck from the district of Clark when the legislators ask for solutions.

The UnlV Cannabis Policy Institute explains that criminal companies are behind the illegal sales and often target tourists on the strip.

“There are large, sophisticated operations. A large number of illegal products is brought from California. There are entire farms that are illegal, ”said Riana Durrett from the Institute.

Durrett said these illegal operations often advertise online and on websites for sales companies and promised the delivery to the Las Vegas Strip. Sales and deliveries are prohibited on the strip.

Unknown tourists can order from these websites and represent health and security hazards.

“You don't know if there are pesticides or heavy metals [in the marijuana]. There was a significant amount of violent crimes related to only low cannabis shops, ”said Durrett.

Who can act against these criminals?

The Cannabis Compliance Board informs the legislators that agents monitored devoted institutions and primarily initiate examinations based on symptoms.

“Some of the top recommendations would be determined which agency is primarily responsible,” said Durrett.

The proposed assembly legislation would give the Department of Public Safety more supervision and also enable delivery to the stripes, not to facilities with games.
