Illini Signe Destiny Jackson called Illinois Gatorade player of the year

Champaign, Ill. – Destiny Jackson from Illinois Women's Basketball was appointed Illinois Girls Basketball Gatorade player of the year, the organization announced on Thursday.

Jackson, a 5-foot 6-Guard from Chicago, played for the Whitney Young Magnet High School with an average of 21.1 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.8 steals per game as a senior in the 2024-25 season. Jackson is the 10th Gatorade player of the year, who comes through the Fighting Illini program and the fourth from the state of Illinois.

Jackson leads your team to a 25:9 record and the section game of class 4a and is a three-time selection for all-state selection and a McDonald's all-American Game Nominee. It is classified by ESPNW as No. 25 of No. 25 in the 2025 class and closes its preparatory basketball career with 2,204 points.

Gatorade Player of the Year is the best honor in the high school sport and celebrates the best high school athletes of the nation for their success on the square, in the classroom and in the community. The Award Distinguishes Jackson as Illinois' Best High School Girls Basketball Player, And She Joins An Impressive Group of Alumni That Spans CEOS, Coaches and Star Athletes Such as Candace Parker (2002-03-04, Naperville Central High School, Illinois), Paige Bueckers (2019-20, Hopkins High School, Minnesota) and Joyce Edwards (2023-24, Camden High School, South Carolina).

Jackson has registered on site in sports camps for endangered young people and donated their time for several non -profit initiatives via their church youth group. She has retained a 3.08 GPA in the classroom and will connect Illinois this autumn.

The Gatorade Player of the Year program recognizes a winner in the District of Columbia and each of the 50 states in 12 different high school sports -football, girls' volleyball, boys and girls -Cross -Country, boys and girls basketball, boys and girls football, baseball and boys and girls -track & field -as well as a national -as well as a national Player of the year in every sport.
