In search of inexpensive power supply, scientists achieve world record performance: “Much higher efficiency”

A new groundbreaking scientific achievement by researchers from HZB and Humboldt University Berlin brings us closer to a future drive performance of solar energy with a new development: CIGS-PERovskit tandem cells.

In order to convert light energy into electricity, solar modules require the presence of solar cells that are in the panel of the main sorb for light.

Innovation in this research has set up a new world record for an efficiency rate of 24.6% of the light that was converted into electricity. This number is above the national average, which is around 21% efficiency.

If most solar cells are CIGS -Copper -Indium -Gallium -Selenide -Cells, this new development adds perovskit, another mineral, the cell that has drastically improved the efficiency.

Traditional solar collectors, although they are often used, tend to have some efficiency problems. CIGS-PEROVSKITEM solar cells offer a promising future that makes it possible to capture a wider range of sunlight.

CIGS solar cells compared to their silicon objects are already known for their effectiveness in absorption, and the addition of perovskit to mix enables a larger absorption rate and releases a new potential for clean energy options.

This new development can lead to solar collectors that are more cost -effective and energy views and benefit houses, companies and power grids worldwide. Further information on current solar novels can be found in this article.

While the first results of the innovation were promising, the researchers are still not convinced that they have achieved the highest potential of the new cell.

“We are confident that tandem cells from CIGS-PERovskit can achieve much higher efficiency experiences, probably more than 30%,” said Professor Rutger Schlatmann, spokesman for the solar energy department at HZB.

If the technology is pushed forward, it can revolutionize how solar energy is used worldwide. It has the potential to reduce electricity costs and reduce our current dependence on dirty energy sources.

Since these researchers further refine the development, it is possible that these advanced cells can be integrated into everyday energy systems, which makes clean energy accessible than ever.
