Insider tips for American travelers

Last autumn, our family decided to upgrade things and drive to Taiwan instead of our usual Florida trip.

We are not travel professionals – two children, a narrow schedule and a love for pizza, they do not scream “international adventure”. But thanks to the life of Taiwan, we pulled it off and it was undoubtedly the best vacation we went. The planning of a tour to Taiwan sounds discouraging, but with a few insider tips it is completely feasible. We learned the following as American travelers who found it for the first time.

Choose a private tour for your crew

With a 10-year-old and a teenager in tow we knew that a large group tour would not cut it-too much, not enough flexibility. Taiwan's life offered us a private tour, and it was a game channel. We told them we wanted a mixture of city material and time outdoors and breaks for the children, and they built them from scratch. No argument about bus seats or about skipping things that we were interested in.

First find out what your family likes. With a private tour you can call the recordings – whether it is additional time on a market or a museum that will be through which the children will not sit. It is worth making everyone happy.

Nail the flight time

The flight from the USA to Taiwan is long – 15 hours from Chicago from Chicago. We didn't want to land exhausted and moody, so we ran out late afternoon. It meant that the children slept most of the way, and we beat Taipei in the morning and be ready to go. Taiwan's life suggested to start light with a visit to the park that stopped us.

Book a flight that matches your sleep schedule if you can. When you land in the morning, you have a whole day to dive into something too heavy. It is a small improvement that makes a big difference.

Sort the technology before you go

We are glued to our phones – maps, photos, SMS Grandma -updates. Taiwan has a solid WiFi in cities, but we didn't want to risk a stained service in the mountains. Taiwan's life recommended a pocket-to-fi rent, and it was a lifeguard on our trip to Taroko Gorge. No dead batteries or roaming fees, just a constant connection.

Take a Wi-Fi device or check your phone schedule for international data. You would like to keep it on long trips for instructions, quick searches or the children's entertainment. Don't leave it chance.

Plan during school breaks

Our children are at school, so we had to work in their calendar. The spring holidays were perfect – Taiwan's weather was mild and the crowd was not crazy. The Cherry Blossom season marked the life of Taiwan as a bonus, so we hit the Yangmingshan National Park with pink flowers everywhere. The children loved it and we eject the summer heat.

Take a look at your family's schedule and adapt it with the seasons of Taiwan. Spring or autumn keeps the weather manageable, and good travel management can highlight what is going on when they are there – like flowers or festivals.

Hold snacks in your pocket

American children are not always for new foods and our goods are no exception. Taiwan has astonishing food, but we were not sure whether you would decide on the first day pancakes or Oyster omeletts. We packed cereal bars and crackers, and the life of Taiwan added stations in Convenience stores for familiar bites like chips. It kept the Hungry nucleus melted in chess.

Bring snacks with your family, especially in the first few days. It buys you time to get involved in local food without anyone starving. You will arrive there – not everything at once.

Build child -friendly fun

We didn't want a trip that was all the temples and history lessons – the children would have aligned quickly. Taiwan's life mixed with things like a cable car ride in Taipei and a kite fly. The teenager went out of the cable car with pictures and the 10-year-old ran around with a kite until he grinned.

Add some activities that are not too serious-think about parks, trips or something practical. A solid tour group like the life of Taiwan can weave these intotours Taiwan without being chasing them. It considers the energy to be for everyone.

Leave space for the restoration of jetlag

This time difference – 13 hours ahead of Chicago – made us harder than expected. On the first day we were foggy and the children were wired at midnight. Taiwan's life held back day one. On the second day we were good to do a whole day in Jiufen.

Don't pack your first day too tight. Give yourself a buffer to shake off the delay – it's not glamorous, but it puts on it to actually enjoy the rest. An intelligent tour plan makes it easy.

Last thoughts: let it

Taiwan turned out to be a great time for us – far beyond what we thought for a family trip. The mountains, the markets, even the random convenience store – everything clicked because we had Taiwan's life in our corner. The planning from the USA initially felt overwhelming, but with these tips it came together smoothly.

Don't be put off by the distance. Get your flight, your technology and snacks sorted and let a private tour do the rest. In the end, make a trip that is fun, is easy and absolutely worth – transport me to our next.
