Ongoing depot-provera lawsuit

At the beginning of last year, the British Medical Journal published a study in which Depo-Provera increased the risk of developing a kind of brain tumor as a meningioma. This is a kind of tumor that occurs on the meninges, the protective membranes that surround and cover the brain and spinal cord. The study showed that long-term users developed these tumors about 3.5 times more often than those who did not receive Depo-Provera.

In October 2024, Kristina Schmidt filed the first complaint against Pfizer for this product. Schmidt had taken the product for years and claims that after a period of severe headaches and dizziness in 2022, meningioma was diagnosed.

In her lawsuit, Schmidt claims that Pfizer knew or should have known about the risks that deps the Depo-Provera that she and other users should have warned of the medication.
